Your mobile phone suddenly rings, making you jolt awake, startled. The bed creaks in protest with your sudden movement, making a horrible wood rubbing against wood sound that makes you cringe.

Your eyes start to feel heavy again, so you let the phone stop ringing and lie back down, snuggling further down into the duvet cave you made and closing your eyes. You're just about to fall asleep when-

Brinnngggg! Brinnngggg!

"Can I not just have some peace?" you say frustratedly to your phone, sitting up again, blowing a strand of hair out of your face and sighing.

You realise that the person who's ringing you isn't going to give up, so you pick up your phone and snap down the line.

"Hello?!"

"Hi, Y/n," Dan says. He sounds amused at your tone of voice.

You immediately calm down when you hear him, your cheeks feeling hot in embarrassment. "Oh, hey, Dan. What's up?" you ask.

"The sky," he jokes. "Eh, not much. I tried calling you before and you didn't answer. You sounded angry when you picked up the phone... are you alright?" he asks, a hint of concern in his tone.

"Yeah, I'm fine! I'm just tired - I was trying to summon the willpower to get out of bed, and the phone kept waking me up when I fell asleep."

He laughs at your frustrated tone. "Um... this might seem a bit rushed... but I was just wondering whether you wanted to make a video with me?" He pauses. "Oh s***, that sounded bad! Uh, not like a porn video or anything, that would be weird... uh-"

You laugh at his rambling. You've learned that he does that when he's nervous. When what he's said begins to finally click with you, you find yourself practically speechless. "Really?" you manage to ask.

"Of course! ...Wait, you know I have a YouTube channel, right?"

You definitely do. But would his attitude to you change if you told him you watched his videos? You want him to like you for who you are, not just a viewer. You know Dan wouldn't be the type of person to treat his viewers any less well than he would treat a non viewer, but still.

"No, I didn't," you lie, trying to sound genuine. "What's your channel name?"

Dan laughs awkwardly. "The name is really cringy, something my thirteen year old self picked out." He laughs. "Um, it's danisnotonfire..."

"I like it," you say unusually calmly. You thought you'd be freaking out speaking to someone like Dan. "So, what type of video would we be doing?"

"You'll have to wait and see," he replies smugly. "It's not anything dangerous, I promise, but it's a surprise all the same!"

"Aw, man!"

Dan laughs softly at your tone of voice. "Come over as quickly as you can. Does ten minutes sound okay?"

"I'll try," you reply with a laugh. "No promises though."

"Okay. See you soon!" With that, he hangs up.

You put down the phone and get up, getting dressed quite quickly (surprisingly). You brush your teeth, do your hair, put on some makeup and leave your bedroom, picking up a handbag on the way.

The house is eerily quiet, but you don't let that bother you. You slip on some shoes, grab a coat and scarf (just in case) and go outside into the chilly winter air.

You check the ground with your foot to see if it's icy before you walk on it. It's not, thankfully. You breathe a sigh of relief and close the door behind you, locking it and slipping the keys in your pocket.

Which apartment block do Dan and Phil live in again?

You look up to the windows of the buildings opposite you. The first house has pink flowery wallpaper... hm, probably not where Dan and Phil live. The next one along looks more promising, with what looks like lots of soft toys on the windowsill.

I'll try that one.

You walk across the road and knock on the door of the apartment block with all the plushies, silently hoping it's the right one.

Shortly after you knock, a tall black haired man opens the door - Phil. You suppress the urge to say his name - you're not making the 'ohcrapyouprobablyknowimafan' mistake again.

"H-Hi, um, I'm here to see Dan," you say quite quietly, your anxious feelings getting the better of you.

He looks at you for a moment in confusion, then a look of realisation spreads across his face. "Oh hey, you must be Y/n, right? I've heard so much about you. Dan won't shut up about you!" he teases.

You chuckle slightly under your breath, focusing on your shoes rather than his face, out of social awkwardness. He clears his throat, capturing your attention. Then, he smiles at you and gestures for you to come in, leading you up millions of flights of stairs. Okay, probably not that many, but it seems like a lot.

You reach the door of their flat and Phil unlocks it, gesturing for you to come inside. He locks the door again behind you and leads the way up more stairs.

Once you arrive at the top, you're panting a little. Phil disappears down the hallway.

"Do you want something to eat?" he asks, walking to the kitchen, presumably.

"No, thank you," you answer politely. He nods and goes into the kitchen, leaving you standing in the hallway alone.

You look around you to see if you can see Dan anywhere, then realise he's probably in his room or something. Just to be sure, you decide to ask Phil. You walk down to the kitchen and see him stuffing his face with handfuls of cereal.

"Uh, sorry to bother you, but can you please tell me where Dan is?" you ask, making him jump and almost drop the cereal box.

He eventually composes himself and swallows his mouthful of cereal. "Oh, sorry, he's down there." He points down the hallway and puts away the cereal box, looking guilty.

"Thank you," you reply, smiling at him and beginning to make your way down the hallway. Obviously, you know where you're going.

That's creepy, Y/n. Shut up.

Suddenly, someone leaps out as you walk past them, making your heart beat wildly in fear and your breathing quicken. Once you get over the shock, you see a grinning face - Dan.

"Dan!" you cry out, trying not to laugh. "That was terrifying! I nearly had a heart attack."

He's unsympathetic, buckling over and laughing hysterically at you. He gasps for breath, clutching his chest. You notice tears of mirth in his eyes. You lightly shove his shoulder, glaring at him.

He eventually finishes laughing, and looks at you properly. "You look nice," he says, smiling at you.

You quickly feel yourself blush at the sudden compliment. "Thank you. You don't look too bad yourself - same colour scheme as yesterday, I see."

Dan rolls his eyes at you in fake annoyance. "I wear black most of the time. It's kind of a 'thing' with the people who watch my videos. If I ever wear any coloured clothes, they think there's something wrong with me." He laughs quietly, then pauses. "Thank you for coming, anyway. I'm glad you didn't ditch me..."

"Did you think I would ditch you?"

"Yeah. I mean, no offence to you or anything. I just... people like you usually don't like people like me. Is that really cliché? I'm sorry," he apologises awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck.

"No, it's okay. And I could probably say the same to you," you say truthfully.

"Oh," he says simply, looking slightly puzzled, but pleased nonetheless. "Do you want to start the video?"

"Okay. Are you going to tell me what it is yet?" you ask him with a laugh.

Dan doesn't reply, but opens his bedroom door to reveal several jars of different coloured mush and a blindfold. He walks in and you follow him, closing his door after you.

"So what's all this, then?" you ask curiously.

"The baby food challenge," he replies, grinning at you and doing jazz hands.
