Nurse Emily's POV:

I stare after her in shock. Who's Dan? I push the thought to the back of my mind and continue walking to the cafeteria.

When I get there, Jenni is still sitting at one of the tables, texting on her phone. She looks up at me, and I walk over to her.

"Do you know anyone called Dan?" I ask.

Seeing the confused look on her face, I add, "A patient, that is. Well, I'm guessing he's a patient anyway..."

She raises her eyebrow at me, and I roll my eyes at her.

"I'll explain later."

I walk up to the counter, make a cup of tea, and bring it back to the ward the old lady is in.

She smiles at me as I hand it to her. "Thanks, darling."

I smile back at her and walk away, back to the cafeteria. I sit down at Jenni's table. She looks up at me and puts her phone down.

"What did you want to tell me?"

"Okay," I start. "So, when I was in the corridor coming here before, a hospital bed was rushed towards me. There was a young woman on it, who had severe burns on her leg. As she went past, she whispered to me, 'Find Dan.' I really want to find him, so I can reunite them!"

Jenni chews her lip. "Did you say she had severe burns?"

I nod.

"Dan could be that guy we had to inject earlier, you know, the screaming one? He had been in a fire too," she suggests.

My eyes widen. "Oh my gosh, yeah! That might be him... I'll go and see if he's awake," I say, getting up. "What room was he in?"

"Twenty," she replies.

As I thank her, my buzzer goes off. I curse and check the screen reluctantly.

Ward 34

I look at Jenni with pleading eyes. "Could you take this for me, please?"

She shakes her head. "You're new, the boss won't want to hear that you've been slacking off! I'll find this 'Dan' guy for you."

I manage to hide my disappointed feelings, and nod at her. "Yeah, that would be wonderful, thank you."

She gives me a wide grin and waves as I exit the cafeteria.

Nurse Jenni's POV:

Emily is so easy to manipulate. If you tell her to do something, she'll do it. Now I have an excuse to see that hot guy again, and she's out of the way.

I smile to myself and get up, tossing my empty polystyrene coffee cup in the bin.

The buzzer on my belt makes a noise, and I turn it off. I'm sure another nurse can do whatever it was.

I make my way to Room Twenty.

When I get there, the young man from earlier is sitting up, rubbing his forehead.

I walk over to him and smile widely. "Hello!"

He looks up at me, startled. "Oh, uh... hi."

"Who were you talking about earlier? You were shouting someone's name," I say, looking at him through my lashes.

"Oh, Y/n? She's my girlfriend," he replies, looking at me suspiciously.

"Was she in the fire with you?"

"Yeah..."

"Oh, did she have burns on her leg?"

He nods and sits up, suddenly interested. "Yes! Do you know where she is?"
