"Jo, I'm Mikey," the boy introduced himself.

Although I broke away from my brother, I still felt a little shy and stood hidden behind him. I looked at the boy in front of us, who is actually not that much taller than me. This is the first time I've met a friend of Kenny's.
"Now don't cling, Meiyo," my brother sighs, slightly annoyed, and pushes me away from him a little.
Although I resisted at first, I finally disengage from him. "She's a little weird... just don't think anything of it," Kenny says to his friend. Feeling insulted, I punch him in the chest. "Idiot!", I exclaim and without another word, I storm back to my room where I drop onto my bed and snort in anger.

3 years later

I am now in high school and will soon be 17.
My life is pretty normal, similar to other people my age, or so I think. Kenny and I still have the same relationship as before, but I think we've gotten a little closer in the last few years. We see each other a lot more than we did in years past. I still love him though, after all he is the only true family and I have to love that, even though our relationship is kind of complicated.

It's June, summer, and the weather is sunny. The sun is burning hotly on the classroom and we sit without air conditioning with the windows wide open. It's not a wise decision, because that way the heat kept pouring in and made learning almost unbearable. Fortunately, it's Friday and class is finally over.
As I leave the classroom, Hinata Tachibana from the neighboring class comes up to me and asks with a smile, "Meiyo!". Some friends and I want to go swimming tomorrow. Do you want to come?" I turn to her and smile back as well.
Although Hinata and I aren't the closest of friends, I do get along with her quite well. Occasionally she invites me to do such things as go swimming.
"Yeah sure, why not," I agree and say goodbye to her.
I don't have many friends. To be honest, I'm alone most of the time.

When I transferred from middle school to high school, I decided not to tell anyone where I lived or bring friends home. I was afraid of other students' reactions if they found out I lived in a brothel. I didn't want to be excluded like that again because I live in a brothel. Most girls still avoid me because I prefer sports to fashion, makeup, and boys. They find me strange and blaspheme behind my back. But honestly, I don't mind much. I'm used to being different from the others and have long since come to terms with it. I have other things on my mind, like my training program, which I came up with myself! I'm a passionate swimmer and now in the summer it's perfect for that! That's also the reason why I gladly accepted Hinata's invitation to swim.

I arrived home shortly after and breathed a sigh of relief when I heard the air conditioner turn on immediately. I took off my shoes and stretched out on the sofa while rejoicing that air conditioning had been invented.

Mikey POV:

"Ken-chin... it's way too hot... let's go to your place. You have air conditioning and you live nearby," I whine to myself as we find ourselves in the middle of a park under the blazing sun. I'm literally hanging over the bench, melting away.
"And get me some ice cream, I really need to cool down," I continue my whining and add, "Besides, I'm way too exhausted to walk.... carry me." I just stand on the bench and let myself fall on Ken-chin's back.
"If you weren't always whining so much, you'd have enough energy to keep running yourself," he sighs in annoyance, but carries me piggyback to his house anyway. After a short while, however, I regretted it again, as I felt not only the blazing sun on my back, but also Ken-chin's body temperature, which made me sweat even more.
Fortunately, his home is not far from our current location, so we arrived quickly. The heat was bothering me so much that I can't even get off his back when we opened the door, even though there's a cool breeze coming straight at us.

"Kenny!? Welcome home!" a girl who came around the corner immediately greeted him. His girlfriend? No, he's got Emma after all. That must be his little sister then. I looked over Ken-chin's shoulder at the girl. I had met her once before, back a few years ago when I first went to see Ken-chin. I wouldn't have recognized her on the street.
"Thank you, would you be so kind and get us something to drink? I can't right now, I have to put the princess down here," he pointed at me. Princess my ass. The girl looked at me with wide eyes, hid a bit behind the wall and just disappeared without giving him an answer. Funny, somehow I have a déjà vu.

Ken-chin sits me down on the couch and pushes an ice cream into my hand that he has fetched from the kitchen. Of course, I'm hugely happy about it and immediately tear open the package to eat it. We stay silent and watch the TV silently while I half hug the air conditioner. This heat is killing me and my brain is melted.
"Kenny!", I'm jolted out of sleep as I wince and look around sleepily. I think I've fallen asleep.
"You're staying here tonight. We'll spend the evening together, and I'll cook us something! I've been practicing!" his sister orders him.
"Yeah well, suit yourself, Mei. We didn't have anything else planned for today anyway. Do you want to join us for dinner, Mikey?" he asks me, looking at me questioningly. Before I can give an answer, his sister had already disappeared again.
"I have to do some shopping though! I'll be right back, don't just run off!" before I could even agree or disagree, she was gone. I look at the clock and see that it's almost 10pm. I must have really fallen asleep.
"No," I just barely give in, even though the question has probably gone away.

I sit here with him for another hour or so, grab another ice cream, and finally decide to leave.
"I'm going to go now. After all, it shouldn't be that warm anymore. I'll see you tomorrow, Ken-chin," I say goodbye before heading out. I don't go straight home, though, but take a detour. At this hour everything is so empty here, mostly only drug addicts and dealers are still walking around. Suddenly I hear a woman's voice next to me screaming, "Take your fingers off me and let me go!" The screams come from an alley surrounded by gloomy shadows.
I stop in front of the alley where the voice is coming from and look inside. As I look into the alley, I see three men surrounding a young girl. Two of them are holding the petite creature by the arms, while the other is looking at her with a greasy grin. I feel a disgust rising in me and decide to intervene
I give the guy who wasn't holding her a kick in his neck, knocking him to the ground. Standing with my foot on his head, I turn to the other two.
"Three disgusting pigs assaulting a girl. You should really be ashamed of yourselves," I say as I walk over the guy's body and stop in front of them. Only now do I recognize the girl, it's Ken-chin's little sister. Why did she go so far away to shop? She lives somewhere completely different, doesn't she?

With another kick, I take out the next guy, tempting the other to run away.
"You're Ken-chin's sister. What are you doing here at this hour?", I ask her in wonder. Again, she just looks at me and goes to the stuff spread all over the floor. She kneels down and holds something under my nose.
"I wanted to give Kenny a treat. He loves these chips, and they're only around here," she explains to me with a big grin.

Confused, I look at the package and then at her. What had Ken-chin once said? "Strange," I mumble, as his words come back to me.
