Meiyo POV

My alarm clock snaps me out of a deep sleep, and I groan as I struggle out of my reverie. Blindly, I reach for my cell phone to turn off the annoying ringing. When I finally have it in my hand, I look through my half-closed eyes at the glaring display. I feel like I've just fallen asleep. It's Monday morning at 7 a.m. and in two hours the bus will leave for camp. I sigh and roll over in bed before putting my arm over my eyes. I can't go, but I still have to let the teachers know and pick up my assignments for the vacations.
I decide to lie in for a bit, since I don't need to get ready much. What for? After all, I won't be going anyway. I stay lying down for a good half hour before I finally get up and make myself some toast. After eating it quickly, I go to the bathroom to wash my face, comb my hair and tie it into a loose bun, and brush my teeth. Then I go back to my room and pick out an oversized t-shirt and sweatpants from my closet to put on.
I sit down on my bed and dig under my covers for my cell phone. When I have it, I check the time and sigh in annoyance because I need to get going. As I sit up, my suitcase catches my eye, still packed. I haven't cleared it out yet because, first of all, I spent the weekend constantly in the hospital with my brother until I was literally kicked out by the doctors. I also don't have the strength to get my stuff out of the suitcase when I got home. Secondly, I'm just still way too depressed about not being able to go.

Depressed, I get up and go put on my shoes and make my way to school. I have absolutely no desire to go, but I have to at least sign out. On the way to school I think all the time about different excuses I could use that sound logical. I go through every possibility, but none of the many excuses I have in my head make any sense, and the worst part is that the truth sounds like the biggest lie.
"Ahhhh," I groan in annoyance, rubbing my face. When I arrive at the schoolyard, my bad-tempered homeroom teacher spots me all too quickly. He's obviously in a bad mood and his eyebrows are drawn together.
"There you are at last, Meiyo! You're late. Put your stuff in the trunk and get in. And where's your brother?" he asks impatiently.
"I um... well...", I stammer to myself, nervously fiddling with the hem of my t-shirt. Suddenly I get all hot and my voice fails because I'm so nervous and don't know what to say.
"My God, don't stutter around like that. Where is your brother? You're one of the last ones on the list that's missing," he gives off even more annoyed than the question before.
"Yeah well, as for my brother, that's what I wanted to talk to them about," I finally find my voice again and look at him nervously....
"You can discuss that on the bus ride. I need to check off. So, where is he? I don't have time to play games!" he continues to rant, and the more he says, the more nervous I get. I sigh inwardly, thinking about how much I hate having to justify myself for something that is out of my control.

I hear a voice behind my teacher complaining, "My goodness, I'm here. Can't you put your bags in the trunk in peace?" And judging by that voice, it's definitely not my brother. My teacher turns and looks skeptically at Mikey.
"You're that shithead from the other day," the bad-tempered man notes, but Mikey isn't fazed by this and argues with me.
"I was just visiting my sister at school that day. Ken Ryuguji my name, should be on her list. We'll be on the bus and stick your bad mood somewhere else, today is a good day, so smile. At least that would do the wrinkles on your face some good, not to be in such a bad mood all the time," Mikey says next to me with a fat grin to my teacher.
"So come on, sis, you heard we're late," Mikey says after me. I don't quite realize what's going on yet, but I'm already being grabbed by the shoulders and pushed into the bus and onto the next free double seat by Mikey, and he settles down next to me.

"God, how can you always be in such a bad mood?" he asks me, snapping me out of my stupor. I shake my head and lightly punch him in the chest.
"What the hell are you doing here? ", I ask him with a whispered scream.
"Going to camp with you, I'm your brother after all," he grins at me and leans back in the seat.
"Have you gone completely stupid now? We'll never get away with this! Besides, I don't even have a suitcase with me! ", I continue to scold him in a whisper.
"Don't worry about that. Mitsuya helped me with your suitcase, we waited until you were out of the house. Too bad your suitcase was still packed, I would have loved to dig around in your underwear," he continues to grin at me and he just gets another box on his chest from me.
"You're out of your mind! We need to get out of here, what about Kenny? Who's taking care of him? Does he even know about this? ", I ask him quickly, and he just laughs lightly.
"Nope, decided on the spur of the moment this morning. And don't worry, I'm sure Emma will take excellent care of him," he just keeps laughing, and I just can't believe what's happening right now.
"So relax, be spontaneous and have fun. It's exciting, isn't it? Feel free to call me bro or big bro during that time," he says with his cursed grin that's driving me crazy.
"I'll kil-"
"So, since we're finally all together, we're good to go. We'll be driving for about four hours and then another two hours on a ship. Just keep quiet, even if it can't be expected from you airheads," my teacher's voice suddenly interrupts us. I look ahead, stunned, and then back at my neighbors.
"Wake me when we get there," Mikey says, leaning even further into the seat and closing his eyes.
"You're so annoying," I say to him, and of course he just grins to himself.
"I know," he laughs, and yet I still have to smile a little.
