"Can I have a moment alone with him?"

The HYDRA agents look at each other in confusion, figuring out if you're aloud to be alone with the Winter Solider. You raise your eyebrows and one of them nods.

"Just knock when you're ready to leave," He says, closing the door once everyone's shuffled out.

"(Y/n)," Bucky murmurs eyes drooping shut before he snaps awake. A small smile curls his lips as he pulls you in for a hug, resting his head on your shoulder. "I'm so tired."

You run a hand down his hair, twirling a strand. "I think it's time to cut your hair again."

"Then can I sleep?" He asks raggedly, huffing lightly.

Guilt floods your chest. You're here to prep him for another wiping, but you don't know if you can do that again.

"Hey, Bucky?"

He hums.

"In a few minutes, I have to preform some tests," You say cautiously, and he stills. "It's going to hurt, but you'll feel better afterwards. I promise."

He stays silent.

"Don't you trust me?"

At that, he sighs and pulls back to meet your eyes. His smile is gone but a look of determination takes its place. "I do."

"Then we're getting out of here," You stand, turning on the machines and altering them to only cause a minor shock instead of the brain-scrambling electricity. "But I need you to act like you're in pain."

He nods, taking a deep breath as he leans back.

"I'll come get you after hours," You hand him the mouth piece and he shoves it between his teeth. "The guards always see me up anyways, so they won't suspect anything. But we'll need to be quick and quiet. I have the keys to one of the vans. Once we escape we have to be in hiding," you pause your rambling and he nods again. "Okay. I'll go get the guards."

You're surprised at how fast everything had went. You got the guards, turned on the wiper and Bucky screamed his lungs out. Though that part, as always, is unenjoyable.

And so, at midnight, you wear your darkest clothes and silently head towards Bucky's cell in the dimly lit hallway.

"Is something wrong, Miss (Y/n)?"

You freeze, heart in your throat as you turn and see Darwin, the newest member of the security. The panic melts as you smile, shaking your head.

"Everything is fine, Darwin. I just forgot my cellphone in the lab."

He nods and carries on with the patrol.

You make it to Bucky's cell without another hitch, silently unlocking the door and peek inside. Then arms are suddenly grabbing your shoulders and pulling you into the darkness.

"Bucky," You squeak lightly, finding his face and press your hands against his cheeks. He instantly lets you go, only to embrace you gently.

"I'm sorry,"

You shake your head, holding up a finger as you take his hand and enter the hallway. "The patrol for this side of the building is in the midst of a shift change. We have to go now if we want to-"

"Going somewhere, Miss (Y/n)?"

You whirl around, eyes widening when you see Darwin with a group of HYDRA security behind him.

Bucky's grip on your hand tightens.

"Please," You blurt out. "He can't take anymore of the voltage. His brain is going to-to melt if we continue-"

"Then we'll find someone else to take his place," Albert, the head of security, steps forward but Bucky pushes you behind him and crouches threateningly. "Got yourself a guard dog, eh?"

Darwin holds up a gun and shoots at Bucky, but he dodges the bullet and then all hell breaks loose. Everything's all blur from there. You vaguely remember getting a gun barrel places at your temple, but then Bucky's face emerged from the shadows and boom, you black out.

When you come to, you're siting in a moving van and you shoot up.

"(Y/n)," You look to your side and see Bucky in the driver seat, a navy blue cap snugly over his hair and he smiles.

"What-What happened in there?" You touch your head and wince, finding dried blood stuck to your skin.

"Sorry," His metal arm clicks as he clenches the steering wheel tightly. "That skinny kid, he went after you. Almost blew your head off if I wouldn't have-" he swallows, eyes narrowed as they focus on the road. "Thank you."

You laugh. "You're thanking me? You're the one who saved me from getting my brains splattered across the wall."

"No," He looks at you quickly. "You saved me. I would still be in there, getting my memories wiped if it wouldn't have been for you. I owe you my life."

"I was just doing what I thought was right."

He slowly takes one hand off the steering wheel and places it back, then sighs and reaches for your hand quickly like he'd change his mind.

"You'll be okay," You say, squeezing his palm. "We'll be okay."
