My mind spun, desperately trying to mentally figure out a math problem I left unfinished in my previous class.

"Wouldn't it be forty-five? No, no-" I mumbled to myself and was completely lost in my thoughts as I bumped into an unsuspecting someone.

"Oh! I'm so sorry!" I looked back, feeling my heart rate quicken as we made eye contact.

It was Newt.

"Oh, that's alright." He replied as I forced myself to look away. I knew he kept his gaze locked on me, but I continued walking.

Finding myself taking my usual seat in study hall at the end of the day, I could thank my muscle memory for letting my thoughts wander to how fast the day was going by.

My friend Teresa sat down next to me saying,
"Hey, I overheard Newt talking about you."

"What," I squeaked, not believing my ears, "What did he say?"

"Calm down, and by the way, your face is really red," I shushed her and she continued on more quietly, "Ohh, your future husband just came in."

My head snapped in the direction of the door immediately and he was looking at me again.

"What did he say?" I whispered.

"He sounded really interested in you." She smiled.

No, he couldn't have been talking about me.

"But what specific words did he say?"

An expression I couldn't decipher crossed over Teresa's face and suddenly a voice as beautiful as music filled my ears, "Hey Y/N."

I looked up and right into Newt's welcoming brown eyes.

"H-hi Newt," I nervously tucked a stray piece of hair behind my ear.

"Erhm, if you aren't too busy, would you consider helping me with my math homework?" He scratched his head and looked hopeful.

I felt my cheeks heat up as I said, "Oh sure. Like right now?"

"Yeah, that'd be swell."

"Okay." I smiled a little and followed him to and empty table. I shot Teresa a what is happening?! look and sat down. She just smiled and shook her head, turning back to the book she was reading.

"Number seven? Do you think you could, um, explain it to me?"

"Of course-" I went into full detail breaking down each step and faithfully clearing up any questions he had. I tried to concentrate when speaking but he was staring at me with a really cute expression.

"Do you understand it?"

He bit his lip and said, "I should be honest with you."

"What do you mean?" I asked, suddenly confused. Was he messing with me?

"I completely understood that problem. I just really wanted to spend time with you."

Once again, I felt a blush burn my cheeks. Why do I have to keep blushing?!

"I'm- I'm glad you did." I felt completely flustered, yet ecstatic at the same time.

"Really?" His eyes lit up.

"I like spending time with you too." I closed my eyes and took a death breath. When I opened them he was grinning an adorable smile that made me smile.

"Do you want to go to a movie on Saturday? I promise I won't need any 'help' with my homework." He smirked.

"Yeah, that'd be great. Let me give you my number." I scribbled it down on a scrap piece of paper and handed it to him.

The bell rang and he said, "I really like you,
Y/N."

I plucked up the courage and said,
"I really like you too, Newt."
