My eyes flutter open and I groan uncomfortably. My whole body hurts, my throat feels like I swallowed a gallon (maybe two) of fire-or acid- my muscles hurt, I have a terrible headache, my face feels hot, and I am very very nauseous. I sit up, then flop back down onto the couch. I cough, then sneeze.

"I feel like I'm dying." I complain aloud to the empty house.

"I doubt you actually are." I hear my Dad say from the other room.

"When did you get home?" I ask in between coughing.

"While you were sleeping." He casually struts into the room reading a book. "Don't worry it was only twenty-maybe thirty-minutes ago."

"Did you figure out why runes aren't working on me?" I ask, slightly irritated by feeling sick. "Because I really hate being sick. I can hardly bare it." I lay my arm across my face dramatically. "Is there a cure?" I dramatically add.

"I haven't found anything yet." He admits, "But maybe Clary can find a rune that will."

"And why didn't you just call her first?" I whine, "Then maybe I still wouldn't be feeling like-"

"Alright alright." He interrupts me rudely, "I'll call her right now. Okay?"

"Thank you." I call in a sing-songy voice as he walks out of the room on his phone. I begin to cough again, my whole body shakes when I do this. I finally manage to stop coughing, then I take in a deep breath. I take several deep breaths, breathing in then out slowly. Moments after I catch my breath, my Dad reenters the room.

"Clary said she could come." He informs me, "She should be here in about 15 minutes."

"Alec coming two?" I ask smirking.

"No-maybe." He smiles, "Its not safe for anyone to walk the streets of New York alone. Its either come with Alec or the blonde one."

"Jace." I remind him.

"Oh I know." He smiles, "So are you hungry? I can cook you some soup. And by cook I mean heat up a can of soup."

"Sure." I laugh weakly, "I'd love some soup."

"What kind would you like?"

Ten minutes later, the soup is reheated. I slowly eat it for two reasons. One: it is very hot. Two: eating quickly while your sick is never a good plan. After I finish the bowl of chicken noodle soup, I fall back asleep, only to be woken up seconds later by Clary arriving at our apartment.

"Darn, I had hoped Alexander would come." Dad mutters under his breath as he enters the room with Clary and Jace.

"What was that Magnus?" Clary asks, completely unaware of what he just said.

"Oh I said I was glad you guys could come." He lies, I begin to cough sporadically again. "Here's the sick human herself. I thought you Nephilim didn't get sick."

"Are you really insulting me?" I ask him in between coughs. "Is now really the time?"

"I will always take the opportunity to insult Shadowhunters." He smiles, "Respectfully." He tells Jace and Clary. "Always a joke."
