S66. Masked
~Honey LeChat
Luke said a few choice words as he turned the car and aimed for the trees to cushion our impact. We slipped out of the vehicle before it hit a huge tree. I hissed at the pain as I rolled off the damp forest floor, the rocks painful against my skin. Dried leaves stuck in my arms and shirt.
A car screeched to a stop in the highway. I glance worriedly at Luke. The vampires are coming after us!
'We got to run." Luke hissed. We took off deeper to the woods. If we followed the east direction, we will surely get to the edge of the southern border of the Romanov territory and though that didn't fully guarantee that we will be safe from vampires, we could ask for help.
I followed Luke closely. A glance and a quick perusal of the scents around us indicate that we manage to put a great distance from the vampires, but not for long.
I pushed past the thick shrubbery. The web of branches inevitably hit my cheeks and suddenly we were free from the forest's vicinity. Luke and I skidded to a stop.
The salty scent carried by the breeze and the crashing sound of the waves was beyond the steep cliff before us. For a moment, I was stunned from the bright rays of the sun and the cool scenery before me.
Movement from the shrubs snapped me out from my daze state. I crouch in a defensive position. Luke and I move backwards, carrying us closer to the edge of the cliff. A quick glance down, revealed that at the bottom were colossal rocks, engulfed by blue waves from time to time.
The scent that hit me made me frown. It was a werewolf scent and a familiar one at that.
Leaves and twigs on the forest floor gave a sharp crunch as the scent got stronger. Tristan stepped out of the canopy of trees and wild shrubs with a scowl on his face. He was wearing a black leather jacket with a white shirt underneath and denim pants that was torn in some places. He was barefoot though.
I didnt know what to feel right now. The last time I saw him was when he revealed his identity as Roarke's brother. It was like seeing him in a different light. Gone were the traces of Tristan Evans who I once adore, replaced by a man, rough around the edges and jaded by his past -Tristan Haven.
I was surprised when Luke grabbed my arm and yanked me closer to him. Tristan's scowl turned to a sneer. "Get away from her you bastard!"
I was shocked at the animosity in his tone but how did Tristan know Luke?
"Don't listen to him Honey. He was the one who imprisoned you and made you experience all those tortures right?" Luke said under his breath. I inhaled sharply and avoided Tristan's gaze.
Tristan growled. "That man is more dangerous than I am, step away from him now! Please trust me. I know you cant forgive me for what I've done but you need to believe me. "
He sounded desperate and it called to my instinct. Luke's grip in my arm tightened.
My heart beat started to race. Luke laughed out loud. "You'd trust him over me?" He demanded, voice laced with amusement but his actions were far from being entertained. His fingers dug painfully to my skin, I'm sure it will leave marks after.
My breath hitched. "Luke? You-" Words left me. Why would Luke do this? Does this mean he's working with the vampires? The sickening suspension made bile rose in my stomach.
"Yes. I was the one who ordered the men with us killed, but taking you however that was Xathos. Of course I did gave him an order but the when, where and how was all him."
