The pair of green eyes staring back at me was not hers.
It was odd how something irrelevant flashed in my line of thought. But as the seconds passed and seem to drag on, I become more convinced how out of place it was on her face.
It was not Ilhea's eyes that stared back at me.
Goosebumps lined up my arms as she grinned. "Finally, we've been waiting for you."
We? My heartbeat thundered in my chest at her words. But there was no one in the room beside me and Ilhea.
Her stare deepened as if she was looking on to my very soul. She sighed contentedly and rocked back and forth on her bare feet. She was wearing a black lace dress that ended just above her knees. Her hair was unkempt as if she had been pulling at them.
"I see. The magic has weakened. But you got to give credit for the spell Daniel had put you through, it lasted for 15 years." She droned on. My brows furrowed in confusion. Surely she was not referring to the Daniel I know?
"Are you talking about Dad?"
Ilhea snickered as if she didn't hear my question. "Of course it would have last longer if he was still alive. He was one of the great warlocks. He was my teacher."
A headache was beginning to throb in my skull at her words.
Somehow her words, how gibberish they may be-sparked something in me.
"Don't you remember me, dear? I certainly remember you running around with your brother. Sometimes dabbling with magic too." She paused then glared at me.
"Even then I hated you. Especially your mother. If not for her, Daniel had already ascended to high power. But he gave up magic for his family." She made a tsking sound and guffawed.
"You don't understand a word, do you? "
I gritted my teeth. "Shut up! I don't know what you're talking about and I don't care."
She gazed pityingly at me. "But of course you should care. I'm telling you who you were dear. Or perhaps its better if everything came from a person you trust?"
She flicked her fingers and said words in a language I knew nothing about. I felt the sudden shift in the air for a second. A loud thud resounded in the room. I frowned and looked on at the direction of the sofa where the sound was coming from. Not a moment later, the black cushions flew away and a head popped in.
I swayed in my feet as I recognized who it was.
Ilhea snickered again.
"You must have missed her. "
A woman emerged from the hole in the sofa with lithe grace. She was smiling serenely but one cannot be fooled. Her amber eyes-which everyone around me thought resembled mine too much –stared icily at me.
She spread her arms wide. "Won't you give your old woman a hug? I missed you, sweetheart." She cooed.
"Mom...but you were-"
The last time I saw her, she tried to kill me. Henry told me she was getting better but I could see how much she changed. Gone was the warm and loving image of the woman who I called mother. Instead, a different person stood before me.
"I'm good now. Back to how I used to be." Her smile turned into a sneer. "Back before your Daddy cursed me to play house with you. It took years for the spell to weaken. You don't know how happy I was when he died. "
