Everyone had been devastated by Kamina's death, but Simon was definitely the one taking it the hardest. He was a completely different person. Y/N couldn't even recognize him anymore. She hated it. As his friend since they were kids, she just couldn't stand it. So, one day, she decided to confront him.

"Simon, we need to talk." She said, her voice stern, yet laced with worry. "What is it?" He asked. It wasn't the familiar, innocent way she had loved. It was rough, cold, and uncaring. "Listen, I know that K-Kamina's death really affected you, but you need to understand that-"

"Whatever it is you're going to say, I don't want to hear it. It's probably just something along the lines of 'Kamina wouldn't want you to be depressed over his death', anyway. Not like I haven't heard it a million times." He grumbled. "Simon, please, just, you haven't been yourself lately. I want the old you back. I don't like this Simon. I just-"

"So you want the old me back, huh? You want the me that let Aniki DIE?!" He yelled, his face hidden from view. Y/N had gotten used to that. She didn't like it, but she got used to it. "Simon, that's not what I meant, I-"

"Shut up!" Simon blurted out angrily. Y/N jumped. "I don't care." He spoke quietly, and he looked up just enough to glare at Y/N. Y/N didn't care that he was glaring at her, all she saw were the tears beginning to build up in his eyes. He looked back at the ground and pushed past Y/N, taking off to his room. "Simon..." Y/N felt that, somehow, she only made it worse.

Two weeks later and Y/N was stuck in a similar state to Simon. Since she was Simon's friend since they were young, she knew Kamina quite well and, while not as close to him as Simon had been, she still felt close to him.

She had lashed out at Kittan after a comment he had made regarding their fallen leader and almost assaulted him with a chair had Yoko not stopped her. She hadn't spoken to Simon since she had confronted him two weeks ago.

Y/N had practically died inside.

She saw Simon, who had been trying to get Lagann to work for the past four hours, angrily throw the Core Drill on the ground, the object clinking against the hard metal of the Dai-Gurren. Y/N sighed, something that Simon had apparently heard. "Oh what, here to talk to me about stupid shit I stopped caring about almost a month ago?"

"Simon, please don't yell. I don't even feel like talking right now, anyway." Y/N's voice held no clear emotion, sounding almost dead. Simon was confused by her response. Now that he was standing in front of her, he could see the bags under her eyes. She was leaning against the wall, her eyes closing slowly only for them to shoot open and blink a few times before repeating the process. Her hair was in knots, suggesting she had pretty much neglected self-care altogether.

Simon honestly felt like he was looking in a mirror.

Y/N noticed the boy staring at her and glared. "What? Ya' got sum'in t' say er sum'in?" She slurred her words, yawning after. "N-No, I just..." For the first time in almost a whole month, Simon felt concerned. "Y/N, you look terrible..."

"I could say the same thing to you, buddy." Y/N replied. Simon didn't have a clue how to respond. He wouldn't deny that he probably looked like shit, but he hasn't looked in a mirror recently so it wasn't like he knew exactly how bad he looked.

"What're ya gawkin' for? Go have another tantrum or somethin'." Y/N grumbled upon noticing Simon's spaced out look. That seemed to snap Simon back to reality. "Oh, you're telling me to throw a tantrum? Says the one who almost smacked Kittan over the head with a chair?" Y/N grabbed the boy by his jacket collar. "You're the reason any of this happened in the first place, you dumbass! I don't give a shit what you were to Kamina, I don't care for you. I never did. Now get the hell out of my face." Y/N threw Simon to the ground then stormed away. Before long, hot tears started streaming down her face. Either from anger or sadness, she had a hard time telling. She just lied about her feelings straight to his face and probably hurt him in the process. No, definitely hurt him.
