Chapter 15

I was wide awake humming Titanium over and over again, to make sure the strength it gave be before stayed. The sun has been gone from the sky for maybe two hours now. I must have spent hours just trying to come up with a plan. I was so proud of myself for my amazing plan.

I stared at the floor trying to figure out a plan when I suddenly realized it was cold in here. It was cold because of air conditioning which meant there had to be some vent somewhere in here. I searched all over the place until I found it under my bed. I pushed myself under the bed, and found a small vent in the floor. It was very small, but just large enough for me to crawl through. No doubt all of their other prisoners must have been 2 to 3 times my size, so they could have never escaped.

I decided to wait until John came back down to check on me, or bring some dinner for me. When he finally did I asked him if he could bring all of my stuff that I had left in the bathroom in the house down to me. He agreed not realizing I really just wanted the shoes that were still in the bathroom.

About half an hour after he came in to check on me I decided to start moving not long after. No doubt the vents would lead me into some utility room, but it was better than what I was in right now.

I was perched at the edge of the vent that was about 1 and 1/2 square feet. Ok, just jump in and then crawl, I tried to instruct myself. What was I waiting for? Leaving Jace, a small part of my mind said. I growled at it, and jumped in without second thought. The place was covered in dust, and the metal was freezing my bare legs.

I slowly crawled through just continuing straight unless I met a dead end. I could feel the air start to blow from in front of me. Bingo! I smirked. I started army crawling towards the wind, turning where I felt it coming from.

I turned a corner and then hit a dead end. What!? A dead end, there was no possible way. I made it this far for nothing. I stopped crawling, and curled up into a ball weeping. I may as well die in this small cubbyhole in the ventilation system. If I were found in here alive, they would probably kill me. So there was no use.

I was still crying when I felt the wind blowing in my face. I was confused because I was facing a metal wall. I looked up and saw a very tall metal wall, tall enough for me to stand. I realized that the utility room must be on a higher level. I stood up, whipping away tears. Somehow the metal held up my weight when it was all on one spot. The wall went high above, just barely to where my arms could reach.

I reached up and was suddenly thankful for all those years of tree climbing. I slipped a couple of times, but still made it up to the next level. I swung my legs over to the secure metal, and pulled up the rest of my body. I sat there for a minute just staring at the ground bellow me. Ok time to continue on. I turned around to face the rest of the way. In front of me was a total darkness. Before there was the occasional vent to light up ahead, but now there was nothing. I must be reaching the main system. I decided unless I wanted to end up in that over sized metal box I should get out now.

I started to kick on the metal, hoping it wasn't too loud. I fell into a steady rhythm, but suddenly my foot slipped into mid air. I looked down to see a huge chunk of the metal had fallen out like a tile. I quickly looked over the edge and was right. I was in the utility room. I hopped down onto the ground bellow me. I landed in a crouch suddenly thankful for the entire mate strength thing. I stood up straightening the shirt out so it wasn't relieving anything. Looking down at the shoes I was in I was suddenly really proud. I just did all of that in heels.

"Bush ya! You suck Mitch. Couldn't walk in heels," I snorted to myself quoting him. I giggled and raised my arms up above my head doing a small happy dance. "Ha ha." I suddenly flopped to the side, falling over unbalanced. I looked around to make sure nobody just saw me trip in my heels. Like anybody is in here, I scolded myself.

Ok, down to business. I looked around and saw a door to my left. I ran over to it and slowly opened up the door. I peeked my head out and saw no one there. I realized I was in one of the rooms in the shed. They had a fricken large shed. I slowly walked over to the other door that led to freedom. There was a small window in the door that I could use to look out, and make sure no one was there. I peered out and saw not a single soul out there. Strange, you would think they would be guarding it. I shrugged just putting it down to being too sure that nobody would figure out how to escape, especially a human girl.

I twisted the handle and pushed on the door. Nothing. I pushed my shoulder against it to find the same thing happen. The door wasn't opening. I looked out the window down at the door to see it was locked. Assholes, all of them, I cursed them. Great what now? I debated breaking the glass, but was afraid it would be too much noise.

It was probably two in the morning. I don't think anybody would still be up. I found an old sack to use to try and minimize some of the sound, and also protect my hand. I wrapped it around my hand, and smashed in the window. Once it was smashed I reached down and unlocked the door. As soon as that was done I was flying out the door, slamming it shut so it would make it slightly less noticeable, to buy myself some more time before they noticed. I then sprinted off into the woods off to my right.

I was running so fast. I was debating putting as much distance between me and them or try and hide. I knew I would never make it all the way home before they noticed I was missing, but I decided to just run. I ran through the creek and then back out, in zigzag to confuse them of my trail. After a while I realized it was taking too much time so I just took off my shoes, and ran through the creek. I could feel my foot being cut by different rocks, but after a while all of the pain vanished from the freezing water.

I ran and ran as far as I could knowing I must have made it about three miles before I heard a great howl. Great, they would be here in about fifteen minutes. Now what? I continued running and running but, my fifteen minutes was running out. I found a tree with branches that were hanging over the creek. I quickly reached up and climbed up and up, until I was at the branches that were about 4 inches thick. It was a very wide and tall tree covered in many layers of spring leaves, so I just had to hope they couldn't see me.

I huddled in against the trunk balancing on the thin branch still clutching my shoes, when I heard a great ruckus coming from the foliage off to my side. Great just in time. I hoped they would just continue running along the creek, because they couldn't get my scent from the water. Lucky for me the wind was blowing my scent to the east in the direction neither of us was heading.

I didn't even breath when I saw the first wolf appear through the trees far bellow me. The moonlight glinted off of his rust colored fur. Luckily he just continued barreling through the undergrowth along the creek. He passed and another seven came running after. I could feel my hands start to shake as I hoped not a single one stopped or looked up. It was agonizing waiting those few seconds until they all passed.

When they finally all ran past I started to breath again, but I was still frozen. I stayed like that for a minute and then climbed down. I couldn't just follow them along the creek now, because if they were to come back they would find me immediately. My best hope would be to head west and hope I would reach the city. From there I could figure out my way.

I ran still clutching my shoes in my hands. I was running what felt like a thousand times faster than before. I felt a burn in my thighs begging me to stop, but as I ignored it it started to vanish giving me more strength. I passed many startled animals than ran out of my way luckily. Another fifteen minutes of running must have gotten me a bit more then a mile west.

Finally I saw a clearing, and some light in the trees ahead of me. Please, just please let it be the town, or even better, somewhere by my house in town. I couldn't run much more. My knees were wobbling, but I somehow was able to get closer and closer to the clearing. Just a few more yards. Please, I begged before running into the clearing in the trees.

Please tell me what you all think. The next chapter should be posted tomorrow or saturday. Please Vote and Comment!!! Thanks everyone!
