Set a year later, starts off angsty but turned fluffy

Michael hated this day.

April 20th. A day that used to make him hopeful, a day that used to bring hope and happiness.

Now all it brought were broken memories.

Michael unlocked his front door. He couldn't wait to see the empty room, filled with memories of past birthdays.

He opened the door, a small part of him still hopeful that Jeremy would be standing there.

After the whole 'Squip incident' Jeremy had been... reluctant to hang with Michael. When Michael had asked if he wanted to hang out, Jeremy had always said he was 'busy' with Christine or one of the others. But he still hoped that Jeremy would be standing there, holding the vinyl they had both been asking for since third grade.

Instead, just like last year, he was greeted by an empty room. And if Michael was making bets, he was sure his parents had left him two cupcakes in the fridge again.

"Surprise!"

Michael jumped back, his eyes widening as he took in Jeremy. "What, What the hell?"

"I'm, uh, well, uh... happy birthday?" Jeremy said, standing awkwardly in the kitchen. "I'm... I'm sorry. So I uh, I... Yeah."

Michael looked around the kitchen, his eyes widening in awe as he took in the red streamers and balloons. "Holy shit. Wait... does this mean you like... don't hate me?"

"Hate you?" Jeremy asked. "Why would I hate you? You saved me!"

"Yeah, but you've been ignoring me for the past like, few months, so. Yeah."

"Oh. Yeah, I uh, guess I have." Jeremy said awkwardly. "But not on purpose! I just... I was working. To save up for your gift."

"My... gift?"

"Well yeah. It is your birthday, right?" Jeremy jokingly asked, pointing to the kitchen table, filled with gifts. "I had to work hard to get that thing you've wanted since third grade."

"Wait, wait. So... you haven't been on dates with Christine?"

"Yeah... we uh, we broke up a few months ago." Jeremy said awkwardly. "She uh? She could tell that my mind was on someone else. So, yeah."

"Oh." Michael tried his best to hide his jealousy, but he could tell that Jeremy knew what was happening in his brain. "Nice."

"Right." Jeremy said, studying Michael closely. "So... you would be... upset if I were to..." Jeremy moved closer to Michael, holding onto his hoodie tight.

"Were to what?" Michael asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

Instead of answering, Jeremy looked at Michaels lips, smiling softly.

"Oh." Michael croaked out.

Jeremy leaned in, meeting Michael halfway. The kiss was magical, everything that the two boys had hoped for.

When they finally pulled away for air, Jeremy smiled. "That wasn't the gift you've wanted since third grade, but I'm uh, pretty sure you've wanted that since third grade as well."

"Wait, did you-?"

"I did." Jeremy said proudly. "I even got you three Marley vinyls to go with it."

"Jeremy. You're the best friend ever."

Jeremy seemed to wince at the words, and Michaels heart dropped. "I mean, or whatever. We don't have to be friends."

"No! No it's just that like, uh, well. What if, hear me out, I be your boyfriend?"

"Oh!"

"I mean, obviously you don't have to say yes, no pressure, whatever, it's just-" Jeremy was cut off by a small peck on his lips.

"I'd love to be with you, sweetheart."
