"So... you're fine?"

Christine sighed. "Yes Jeremy. I'm fine."

"You're sure?"

"Yes Jere-bear. I'm sure."

"You're sure you're sure?"

"Jeremy," Christine said, giving him a kiss on his forehead. "Yes! I'm fine! I just got distracted and forgot to eat lunch. It's okay. I'll eat when I get home!"

"Okay. Okay, yeah no totally. Sorry, I just-"

"No, no, it's okay, it's sweet-"

They both stopped, looking into each other's eyes. Laughter slipped out of their mouths, both of them smiling wide.

"Okay, okay. I'll see you tomorrow, sunshine." Jeremy said, getting up from his place on Christine's couch. "See you tomorrow, sweetheart."

"I'll see you tomorrow, love!"

———

"She said she was fine?"

"Yeah dude, so it's all good. She said she's fine, so she's fine."

Jeremy could hear Michael sigh over the phone. "God, how did you get a date before me? You don't even know girls that well!"

"What are you talking about?" Jeremy asked defensively.

"When a girl says she's 'fine', she's never actually fine. She said she forgot to eat lunch? Unlikely. Alana forgets to eat lunch, not Chrissy. Chrissy is more likely to eat a second lunch because she forgot she's already eaten.

"Oh."

"Yeah, oh Heere. Go like, I don't know, comfort your girlfriend or some shit, cuz you kinda fucked this over."

"Shit, okay, bye Michael!"

Jeremy hung up the phone, leaving Michael alone in his basement.

He almost turned on Apocalypse of the Damned on instinct, but stopped when he remembered it was a two player game.

Michael reluctantly put looked through his collection, trying to find something he could play.

Alone.

———

"Christine! What the fu-hell are you doing?"

Christine shot up, ignoring her flushing face. "Go away." She said as angrily as her shaky voice would allow.

"Christine..." Jeremy trailed off, moving to the floor beside his girlfriend. He pulled her hair out of her face, and closed the toilet seat. "Come here, please."

Christine instantly collapsed into Jeremy's arms. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm-"

"Shush, Shush, it's gonna be okay. It's gonna be okay, I promise." Jeremy held her tight, reluctantly letting a few of his own tears fall.

After Christine's tears dried, Jeremy pulled away so he could see her face. "Why?" He asked, the sound of his heart shattering was heard in his words.

"I'm sorry," Christine started.  "I just, I just, ugh. All of the leads are skinny, and pretty, and so beautiful, and I just, I just wanted to be pretty like them, so I can, so I can play leads like Audrey."

"Darling, baby, my sunshine," Jeremy said, pulling back a strand of Christine's hair. "You are very beautiful, and very pretty. Sure, you aren't like, Chloe skinny, but why does that matter? You're healthy... well, I mean, not now, but eating is healthy! And you eat healthy, and you work out. That's good! And, and if... if Mr.Reyes said something about your weight and, and not being skinny...."

At Christie's small nod, Jeremy's face flushed angrily. "I'm gonna hurt him." With Christine's look of fear, Jeremy added quickly. "With words. I'm gonna hurt him with words."

"Just... not now, please." Christine mumbled, snuggling back into Jeremy. "Later."

"Later." Jeremy agreed. "Later."
