-Ricks p.o.v-

"Rick, she needs blood. What's her blood type?"

I stand there scared. I don't know. I start looking through her bag and her pockets. I find a dog tag. It reads:

Karma
Bullet S.
XXX-XXX-XXXX
AB pos
No preference

"AB positive."

"We're lucky. She's a universal recipient." Hershel says aloud

"What dose that mean?" Carl asks

"She can receive any blood type"

Carl holds out his arm and tells Hershel he wants to help her. He thinks it's his fault. Hershel says no so, I hold out my arm.

"A positive" I say firmly.

"Doesn't matter she can take anything."

Patricia walks over with a needle and a tube. I ready my arm and she sticks the needle in. She does the same to Bandit. I hold the dog tag in my other hand and study it.

'Karma is her name... why, why Karma?" I think.

Im pulled from my thought when Shane walks in.

"How is she man?" He asks

"I don't know."

Shane looks down at the floor then up to my hand.

"The hells that?" he asks, gesturing to the tag

"Her tag."

He grabs the tag and studies it closely.

"Karma? I thought her name was Bandit?"

"Just what we called her." I tell him truthfully

He gives me back the tag and looks over at her.

"I'm going to try to take out a part of the bullet. Hold her down."Hershel tells us.

We get up and grab her arms and legs.

Hershel plunges the tweezers into the wound and digs for the fragment. Karma bolts up and releases a blood curling scream. We struggle to hold her down. She's so strong. She then stops screaming and squirming and falls limp. Me and Shane both look at her horrified.

'Did she just die?!'

"Hey. Hey. Wait" Shane starts

"She just passed out." Hershel says aloud

I relax a bit until he pulls out a piece of the bullet.

"One down, five to go."

I sit back down in a chair and put my head in my hands. No one knows where we are. No one know what happened. Lori doesn't know that Karma saved our sons life. Hershel then walks in the other room.

"She's out of danger for the moment, but I need to remove those remaining fragments."

"How? You saw how she was." I say

"I know. And that was the shallowest one. I need to go in deeper to get the others."

"Oh man." Shane breathes out

"There's more,"

"Tell me." I say

"Her belly's distended, her pressure is dropping, which means there's internal bleeding. A fragment must have nicked one of the blood vessels. I have to open her up, find the bleeder and stitch it. And she can't move while I'm in there. I mean, at all. If she reacts the same as before, I'll sever an artery and she'll be dead in minutes. To even try this, I have to put her under. But if I do, she won't be able to breathe on her own. Same bad results."

Im willing to do whatever it takes to keep this girl alive. She saved me and everyone else. Especially my son. And I can't thank her if she's dead.

"What will it take?" I finally ask

"You need a respirator, what else." Otis barges in.

"The tube that goes with it, extra surgical supplies, drapes, sutures." Hershel tells Otis

"If you had all that you could save her?"

"If I had all that I could try." Hershel says

"The nearest hospital went up in flames a month ago..., the high school." Otis says

"That's what I was thinking. They set up a shelter there. They would have everything we need." Hershel says

"The place was over run last time I saw it. You couldn't get near it. Maybe it's better now." Otis says

"I said leave the rest to me, is it to late to take that back?" Shane asks.

"I hate you going alone." I argue

"Come on, doc why don't you do me a list, draw me a map?" Shane says back

"You don't need a map. I'll take you there." Otis says

Him and his wife argue about letting him go but Otis wins the argument.

"I should thank you." I say

"Wait till that girl is up and around, then we'll talk. I'll gather some things." Hershel says

"Where is she, your wife?" Maggie steps up.

I tell her exactly where they are and that we are stationed on the highway. I tell who is in our group and who she needs to get. And with that she tells her dad and goes to get her stuff.
