"So first I say something I've never done and if you have done it you drink, and if you haven't I drink. Then we switch" She says

She wants me to play a drinking game. Those never go well

"You really don't know this game?" She asks

"I ain't never needed a game to get lit before," I tell her

"Wait are we starting?" She asks

"How do you know this game?" I ask

"My friends played. I watched. Okay, I'll start. I've never shot a crossbow. So now you drink." She tells me

"Ain't much of a game," I say taking a shot

"That was a warm-up. Now you go."

"I don't know," I say thinking.

"Just say the first thing that pops into your head."

"I've never been out of Georgia," I say truthfully

"Really? Okay, good one." She says taking a swig

"I've never...been drunk and did something I regretted."

I take a drink. This is starting to get personal.

"I've done a lot of things."

"Your turn."

"I've never been on vacation."

"What about camping?" She asks

"No that was just something I had to learn to hunt."

"Your Dad teach you?"

"Mm-hmm." I hum

"Okay." She drinks. "I've never been in jail."

Is that what she thinks of me?

"I mean as a prisoner."

I just stare at her blankly. She chuckles nervously

"Is that what you think of me?" I ask

"I didn't mean anything serious, I just thought, you know, like the drunk tank. Even my dad got locked up for that back in the day" she says

"Drink up," I tell her

"Wait. Prison guard. Were you a prison guard before?"

"No," I say

I'm starting to get pissed.

"It's your turn again."

I get up.

"I'm gonna take a piss."

I walk over and drop a glass on the ground. It shatters

"You have to be quiet." She whisper yells

"Can't hear you! I'm taking a piss!"I say loudly

"Daryl don't talk so loud!" She scolds

"What are you my chaperone now?" I say over my shoulder loudly

"Oh wait, it's my turn right?" I say finishing up "I've never- never eaten frozen yogurt, never had a pet pony. Never got nothin' for Santa Clause!" I say knocking over a chair. "Never relied on anyone for protection before! Hell, I don't think I've relied on anyone for anything!"

"Daryl." She says

"Never sung out in front of a big group out in public like everything was fun. Like everything was a big game."

I turn around and look at the wall

"I sure as hell never cut my wrists looking for attention!" I yell in her face

Walkers begin banging on the walls from how loud I was.

"Oh looks like our friend out there is calling over is little buddies!" I say kicking a can loudly

"Daryl, shut up!" She scolds

"Hey, you never shot a crossbow before? I'm gonna teach you right now. Come on it's gonna be fun!" I yell kicking out the door

I admit I'm drunk. I'm mad. And those things never mix

"Daryl we should stay inside! Daryl cut it out!" She says as I drag her outside

"Dumbass. Come here, dumbass!"

I shoot it in the shoulder, pinning it to the wall

"You wanna shoot?"

"I don't know how."

"Oh, it's easy. Come here." I say grabbing her by the shoulder and put the crossbow in front of her. "Right corner." I shoot its leg as she pushes me away

"Let's practice later."

"Come on its fun," I say reloading

"Just stop it! Daryl!"

I grab her again and put the crossbow out in front of us.

"Eightball," I say shooting it in the chest

"Just kill it!" She cries

"Come here Greene, let's pull these out, get a little more target practice."

She runs up and stabs the walker in the face

"The hell you do that for? I was having fun!"

"No, you were being a jackass! If anyone found my dad-" I cut her off

"Don't! That ain't remotely the same."

"Killing them is not supposed to be fun."

'Tell that to Karma.'

"What do you want from me, girl, huh?" I say getting upset from the thought of Karma.

"I want you to stop acting like you don't give a crap about anything! Like nothing, we went through matters. Like none of the people we lost meant anything to you. Like Karma didn't mean anything to us. IT'S BULLSHIT!" Beth shouts

"Is that what you think?"

"That's what I know."

"You don't know nothing," I growl

"I know you look at me and you just see another dead girl. I'm not Michonne, I'm not Carol, I'm not Maggie." She says

"I'm sure as hell not Karma."

That hit me like a bullet

"I've survived and you don't get it 'cuz I'm not like you or them. But I made it and you don't get to treat me like crap just because you're afraid."

"I ain't afraid of nothing." I snarl as i get in her face

"I remember. When that little girl came out of the barn. After my mom. You were like me. And now god forbid you let anybody get too close." Beth says

Memories of Karma start flooding back

"Too close huh? You know all about that. You lost two boyfriends you can even shed a tear! Your whole family's gone and all you can do is just go looking for hooch like some college bitch!"

"Screw you. You don't get it."

"No, YOU DONT GET IT! EVERYONE WE KNOW IS DEAD!" I shout

"You don't know that!"

"Might as well be, 'cause you ain't never gonna see me again."

"Rick. You ain't never gonna see Maggie again. WE BOTH KNOW WE WON'T SEE KARMA NEITHER!"

"Daryl just stop!"

"No!" I say as tears start to flood my vision

"The governor rolled right up to our gates. Maybe if I shouted louder. Maybe if I did something. That's on me!" I tell her

"Daryl."

"No."

Tears start flooding my eyes. Maybe if I did something different, Karma would be here. The governor wouldn't have taken our home.

"Maybe- maybe I could have done something."

Beth hugs me from behind.

I can't take it. I start crying. We both start crying.
