We're less than a month away from the finale of The Vampire Diaries, so we must face that the end is most definitely nigh. After getting to know an eclectic group of supernatural friends over the last eight years, it will soon be time to say a tearful goodbye.
As the series gears up for its final ride, we got to speak with Skye Somerhalder, who plays the troubled and loved up human-turned-vampire Holly Parker, about the show's imminent end. While she didn't drop any spoilers, she did reveal her thoughts on how she wants her character's journey to come to a close, about her on and off screen love for husband Ian and so much more.

What kind of ending do you want for Holly?
I would love to see her end on a happy note. We've only got two episodes left to film so I more or less know what way it is going to go. Julie is always adding and changing things though, trying to keep us on our toes. If you really think about it Holly has had a pretty miserable life. It wasn't until she met Damon and Bonnie that she finally saw a light at the end of the tunnel. If it was up to me she'd get that cliche romantic ending. Her and Damon walking off into the sunset.

Holly is easily one of the most beloved characters on the series. What is it like to be on the receiving end of that sort of passion from the fans?
It's wonderful to know that so many people love Holly because I love her too. It's kind of bizarre to all of a sudden realize you've been with a character for so long and then that the show's coming to an end. You realize that wow, I have to say goodbye to the character who inevitably...is me and I am her. When you go to work and you're watching this character grow, your growing's parallel to them in this weird way. It's wonderful. I love the character. I love that she has faults. I love that she's insecure. I love that she always puts her foot in her mouth. She may not always be right and she may not always do it with grace but she's trying her best to save the day and that's what I really love about her.
What I've seen on social media are those moments where the fans relate to that character or the very human moments that Holly has...things like watching her brother die in her arms, and losing her sisters. I think that was a really powerful time to be on the receiving end of the fans comments. They were able to relate to what Holly was going through so much. I thought that was really moving. Really powerful. I mean everyone has experienced loss right?
