Les POV

I was selling papers with Jack and Davey when we saw a girl around my age running away from the cops. She ran passed us and into the alley behind us. The cop walked over to us.

"Have you boys seen a girl, around the age of nine, long hair, worn out dress, and worn out boots?" The cop asked

"No sir we have not sorry" Davey says

The cop walks away in the opposite direction, the girl pecked her head around the coner.

"Thanks for not selling me out" She said with a smile

"You're welcome but my I ask why is a girl your age running from the cops?" Jack asked her

"Well you see, I ran way from an orphanage and because I managed to get out the cops are after me because they want to take me back. I am NOT going back there" She said

"What orphanage?" Jack asked

"Miss. Vale orphanage for under aged kids" She whispered

  "I understand now. How about you come stay with the Newsies, we'll keep you safe kid" Jack said

"How old are you?" I asked her

"I'm ten....almost" She answered me "Also I would love to stay with the Newsies. Names Y/N"

"I'm jack and this is Les and Davey" Jack said while pointing at us

Y/N shook her head as she started to walk with Jack back to the lodging house. Davey and I started to walk home. Once we got home I sat on Daveys bed as he started to read.

"Hey Davey, why was Y/N put into an orphanage?" said him

"Well Les some kids are put into those types of places because parents die or the parents don't want them. Or it could just be the fact that the didn't want to put her into jail, there are many reasons but its not my job to tell you her story. Especially when you don't know their past, don't bring up cause some people's past are hard to talk about. Get some sleep Les" Davey explained

I nodded my head and walked over to my room.

Y/N POV

All the boys are really nice and they have already took me under there wings. I am sharing a bed with Jack because one there are no other beds, two because I'm a small person, and three cause Jack is the only one I'm really close to. I started to fall asleep when Jack pulled me closer to him, this is the first time I have felt safe in a while.

~Time Skip~

I woke up to Jack shaking me.

"How did you sleep kid?" Jack asked

"Good" I mumbled while rubbing my eyes

"You're coming with me again today so lets go" Jack said

I shook my head and I climbed out of bed. I follow Jack down the unfamiliar streets of Manhattan till you got to this building where the other newsies were.

"Jack, I see you got a new girl. She's gonna be fun to break" A man said

"You aren't gonna touch this girl Morris" Jack said

After Jack got his papers he grabbed my hand and pulled me along the streets of Manhattan. Once we got to the place I met Jack, Davey, and Les yesterday I started to get scared on if the cops would try to find me. After alittle bit I saw Les and Davey walking over to us, I ran over to Les and pulled him into a hug. Once we pulled away Les grabbed my hand as they sold after a few hours they were done. They Jack asked me a question that was hard for me to answer.

"So kid when was the last time you ate" Jack asked

"um...... a few weeks ago" I answered while looking down at my feet

"Well lets go get you some food" Jack said

I hopped onto Jack back as we started to walked towards a restaurant, once inside we sat down I noticed the ladie that ran the place i was trapped in. I sunck down into to seat and I tapped Les on the arm.

"That ladie was the person who ran the orphanage I was stuck in. I can't let her see me." I told Les

Les nodded and he told Jack and Davey. They moved around so that Jack was beside me. After fifteen minutes she left and I finally realized. After we ate me and Les went to his house and we say in his room.

"Why where you in the orphanage?" Les asked

"It's a long story but let's just say my parents didn't want me or my brother. I don't know where my brother is." I told Les

"What's your brothers name. Maybe he's a news is in New York" Les told me

"Tyler" I told Les

Les grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the newsies lodging house.

"Jack!" Les yelled "I have a question"

Jack walked down the stairs and looked at Les.

"Yes" Jack asked

"Is there any Newsie with the name of Tyler?" Les asked

"Crutchie. That's the only person I can think of" Jack said "why?"

My brothers name is Tyler and I don't know what happened to him after my parents gave us up." I told Jack

"I mean we can see if he's your brother" Jack told me

I smiled and shook my head, who knows maybe I'll actually be happy for once. I followed Jack over to a boy with sandy blonde hair and he has a crutch. Jack tapped him on the shoulder and that's when I saw him, my big brother. I ran over to him and he wrapped his arms around me. I saw Les smile and as soon as Crutchie put me down I ran over to Les.

"Thank you Les" I told him

We pulled away and Les took my hand.

"You're so welcome. I like seeing you happy Y/N" Les said "I have to head home"

I smiled as I watched Les walk away.
