Laylah watched Spencer from her desk, a book in her lap; her fingers holding it open. She watched his features, noticing the excitement tense in his muscles as his eyes flicked over the desk before him. She smiled softly, knowing how hard he'd been working to get his mother into a clinical treatment for Alzheimer's. Something he hadn't told anyone about, herself included. But, she'd managed to figure it out on her own from the countless brochures and papers he had laying around his apartment, all seemingly systematically placed from where he'd finished pacing on the phone.

'Yeah, I know. It's great news. Thank you. Bye,' He spoke quickly before hanging up; 'Yes!'

Laylah chuckled as he battered the table before spinning himself in his chair, smiling excitedly toward her when he spotted her.

'Am I interrupting a private moment?' Rossi asked as he wandered over.

'That was the director of the assisted care home where my mother lives,' Spencer replied.

'And?'

'I kept quiet because I didn't want to jinx it, but there's a ground breaking clinical study on Alzheimer's at Johns Hopkins next month, and I just found out that my mum's gonna be one of the participants. She got in.'

'That's great news, Spencer.'

'It's huge. The program's called metabolic enhancement for neuro-degeneration, and results from earlier tests are hopeful, not just to slow the disease but to actually reverse it.'

He let out an excited yell as Penelope wandered over, nodding to Laylah's curious gaze; signalling they had a case. The girl stood, tucking her book into her bag before she wandered over to join the others.

'Ok, it's customary that the lottery winner shares that mega payout with the rest of the office,' Penelope teased.

'Well, Reid's news is even better than that,' Rossi smiled like a proud father.

'Oh. I can't wait to hear, but right now we got a case.'

Rossi nodded, pushing himself off the filing cabinet her was perched on; patting Spencer on the shoulder as he went. Spencer stood, only to be wrapped up in his girlfriend's arms.

'Congrats,' She murmured.

'Thank you,' He grinned; 'I, uh, I tried to get your mum in too, but- I'm sorry.'

'Oh, Spence.'

Tears welled in her eyes as she smiled, pressing her fingertips to her lips.

'I really tried, and I'm sorry if I overstepped, I just wanted to try to help,' He rambled.
