"A gang is where a coward goes to hide"

Laylah lazed against the headboard of her hotel bed, her phone in her lap on speaker with Spencer on the line. Her file sat in her lap wide open, photos scattered across the duvet; her eyes half shut, but mind working quickly trying to find answers.

'Tell me about the case,' He prompted, sensing her distance.

'It's a gang of, well what I assume to be runaways, that are breaking into wealthy homes, vandalising them before the leader kills the owner. But, they're unravelling. Previously, the victims were shot in privacy, today, they were shot out in the open. We think he's struggling to maintain control over the group, and him killing in front of them is inducing fear into them; attempting to restore in control,' She paused for a second; 'But, there is so much rage in the the destruction. So much anger. So much so it looks like these houses are targeted.'

'But, they're not?'

'No, they're surrogates to whoever the alpha is getting closer to finding.'

'What about the rest of the gang?'

'They're unravelling, and quickly. We think they're beginning to turn on one another for a reason we're yet to discover.'

'Probably feel bad about breaking into the houses and hurting people.'

She sighed, nodding her head to herself. She rubbed her forehead, feeling a headache coming on from the lack of sleep she'd been getting.

'Hey, you still there?' Concern laced Spencer's voice.

'Yeh,' She murmured; 'I've just got a bit of a headache.'

'Because you need to rest. Did you bring the shirt I gave you?'

'Yeh.'

'Did it help last time?'

'Yeh.'

'Well, put it on and try to get some sleep... Please.'

'Stay with me until you fall asleep?'

'I can do that.'

'Tell me some random facts or something.'

'Do I bore you that much?'

'No, your voice just calms me.'

Spencer smiled as her words, fatigue evident in her voice.

'I can do that,' He replied.

She nodded to herself, reaching down to grab the shirt from her bag that sat beside the bed. She pulled it over her head, sliding down to lay on the bed before she lazily put the phone on speaker. She tucked her hand under her head, closing her eyes as she shifted until she was comfortable.
