She smiles politely at the cashier who is a friendly old man as he tells her as he charges her for all the booze that she's buying, you and your friends are going to have a good time and wake up with sore heads with all of this and he laughs and Leila shrugs her shoulders and continues to smile politely, she's fine with the old man thinking that she's going to drink the booze with friends and not know that she'll be drinking it all by herself and she pays for the booze and she breathes a sigh of relief as she leaves the store and she gets into the cab that she had wait for her and she leans back in the seat feeling exhausted from the heat and lack of sleep and she tells the cab driver to take her back to where he picked her up and Leila yawns and wishes that Juanita hadn't conveniently forgotten to order her alcohol with the groceries that had been delivered that morning, Leila knows the woman disapproves of how much she's drinking and she means well, but it had pissed her off none the less and when the cab she had Juanita call for her had shown up, Leila had enjoyed seeing Juanita look unhappy as she told her that she shouldn't be long as she's only going to buy what she had forgot to order for her and Leila hopes Juanita won't try to pull that crap with her again and Leila wonders if renting a house with a live in housekeeper was a good idea and she sighs and decides to forget about it, but if Juanita does anything else to piss her off then she'll have to talk to her and lay down some rules, she can't be bothered to look for another house to rent and Leila closes her eyes and thinks about Bruno.
She ignores Juanita who looks at the 4 bags that she's carrying disapprovingly and Leila goes into her bedroom and puts the bags in the closet and she takes her sandals off and takes a bottle of gin out of 1 of the bags and she goes and sits on the bed and she opens the bottle of gin and drinks as much of the gin as she can and Leila feels the usual burn from drinking alcohol straight out of the bottle and she coughs and takes a deep breath and she reaches over and picks her phone up from on top of the night stand and she switches her phone on for the first time since she texted her parents and friends last Thursday morning and Leila smiles sadly at the wallpaper on the screen of her phone that's a photo of Bruno laughing, she loves his laugh, it's contagious and as sexy as the rest of him, she'd love to hear Bruno laugh again but she knows that's never going to happen and Leila forces herself to look away from his photo and she sees that she has notifications and she checks them and she's surprised to see that Bruno has left her 36 voice mails since last Thursday and seeing that he's left her so many message makes Leila feel so happy, she misses the sound of his voice, she misses him so much, she can't wait to hear his voice and she dials her voice mail and she's about to tap to listen to the first of the voice mails that Bruno's left her when reality hits her, reminding her that she left Bruno, and her happiness and eagerness to hear Bruno's messages and hear his voice disappears and Leila calls herself a fool because she doubts that Bruno has left her the nicest messages in the world and who can blame him, she knows she deserves his anger, but she can't bare the thought of hearing Bruno talk to her with anything other than love, she's not strong enough for that, she doubts that she ever will be but Leila knows that although she can't bring herself to listen to his messages today, she knows that Bruno deserves the respect of having her listen to all of the messages that he's left on her phone, she owes him that, no matter how painful it might be for her to listen to them and that's why she'll try to listen to them tomorrow and the next day and the day after that if need be, she'll keep trying until she has the guts to listen to what Bruno has to say to her and she drinks some more gin and replies to her parents and friends text messages.
She notices that she only has 1 bar left on her phone battery and she switches her phone off and puts the lid back onto the bottle of gin and puts it on the bed and she gets up off the bed and goes and gets her phone charger out of the drawer of the nightstand and she connects it to her phone, plugs it into the socket near the bed and puts her phone on top on the night stand and she picks the bottle of gin up as she sits down on the bed and Leila calls herself a pathetic, weak fool for not having the courage to listen to the voice mails that Bruno has left on her phone and she starts to cry and she opens the bottle of gin and drinks as much as she can and Leila wishes that she was with Bruno, she misses everything about him and their life together, she loves him so much and being apart from him hurts like hell, it's killing her and she grabs her journal and pen from under her pillow, she needs an outlet for all the pain she's feeling and she drinks some more gin and Leila writes in her journal about how she's feeling and how life without Bruno is so fucking painful, hard, boring, dull and empty and she doesn't know how to live without him and Leila knows she deserves all the pain that she's in because Jaime used her to hurt Bruno and she'll never forgive Jaime or herself for that and she puts her journal and pen back under her pillow, wipes her tears away and Leila forces herself to drink the rest of the bottle of gin, which gets her drunk quickly and has her feeling nauseous and more tired than she already was, she can barely keep her eyes opened and she thinks about the good times she had with Bruno and the memories make Leila feel desperate to hear Bruno's voice and she reaches for her phone that's on top of the nightstand and she loses her balance, falls back on the bed and passes out.
He ends the call and closes his eyes feeling disappointed and frustrated that his call to Leila went straight to her voice mail again and he'd left her another message and Bruno doesn't know how much longer he can take being without Leila and not knowing where she is or if she's ok and Bruno wishes that Leila would turn her damn phone on, he's made it clear in the messages that he's left her that he knows that Jaime is who she was warning him about in her letter and she made her leave him somehow, he doesn't know why Jaime is doing this but if she tells him, he'll do whatever it takes to fix it, and he'd told Leila that he loves her and misses her, he wants her to come back home to him and he'd reminded her that they can get through anything together, which is why Bruno can't believe that Leila has listened to any of the messages that he's left on her phone, because if she had then surely she'd call him, or better yet, come home to him.
He rubs the back of his neck as he looks through old photos of his family in hope that 1 of them will trigger a memory of something bad that he did to Jaime, but so far Bruno hasn't been able to remember anything that he did to Jaime that would make her resent him, hold a grudge for years and make her want to hurt him and break up his marriage and he's running out of old photos to look through, damn it, he needs to figure out what this shit is all about and how Jaime made Leila leave him, he wants Leila back home with him where she fucking belongs and Bruno promises himself that when he finds Leila and he knows she's ok and he has her back home with him, he'll make Jaime pay for taking Leila away from him and the promises he's made himself make Bruno determined that no matter how much it hurts, how hard it is, or how long it takes, he won't give up, he won't stop believing that he'll get Leila back and Bruno smiles as he thinks of how he'll deal with Jaime when he gets his life back.
