3 days later

He wakes up and Bruno's disappointed that Leila isn't in bed beside him and he strokes Leila's pillow, it's cold which means she's been up for a while and he gets up and goes over to the bathroom and he knocks on the door and calls Leila's name and when Bruno doesn't hear a response he opens the bathroom door and he sees that the bathroom is empty and he goes to Leila's closet and he knocks on the door and calls her name and when he doesn't hear a response he opens her closet door and Bruno sees that Leila isn't in her closet either and he can't shake the panic and worry he feels and he runs his fingers through his hair and wonders where she is.

She is feeling pretty pleased with herself as she finishes icing the chocolate cake that she's made for Bruno and she stands back when she's finished and she looks at it and the coconut cake that she's also made for Bruno that's sitting beside it and Leila hears Bruno shouting her name and Leila walks to the kitchen door that's opened and hoping Bruno will hear her she shouts, i'm in the kitchen Bruno and a minute later Bruno comes running towards her wearing just the grey sweat pants that he'd slept in and he stops in front of her looking worried and he pulls her into his arms and Leila feels him shudder and she strokes his back and asks him, what's wrong Bruno, are you ok and he tells her, I am now, I need a minute, just give me a minute baby and Leila can hear what sounds like relief and fear in Bruno's voice which confuses her and she tells him, take as long as you need sugar bear.

He pulls back just enough to look at Leila and he swallows hard, even though he's found her and he can see that she seems ok, Bruno can't shake the panic and worry he's felt since waking up and not knowing where she was and Bruno knows what Leila's been doing by looking at her and he smiles and asks her, what have you been baking and Leila asks him, who says i've been baking and he tells her, you're a great baker but you're a messy baker and those smudges of flour on your face and t shirt give you away baby and Leila glances down at her blue t shirt and she shrugs and tells him, ok, i'm busted and she pouts and tells him, I wanted to surprise you Bruno and he wipes a smudge of flour off Leila's left cheek and tells her, you've surprised me enough this morning baby, trust me.

She drops her arms from around Bruno and steps back from him and he reaches for her and Leila steps back away from him a bit more and she asks him, what do you mean that i've surprised you enough this morning, why were you shouting for me and why did you look so worried when you came running to me and why do you still look worried and Bruno rubs the back of his neck and tells her, I was worried when I woke up and you weren't in bed with me and I didn't know where you were... I panicked and she gets it and Leila smiles sadly at Bruno and she tells him, I woke up and couldn't get back to sleep, I watched you sleep for a little while but I couldn't stop thinking about Jaime, I needed something to take my mind off her and her deadline this morning and I decided to surprise you, I wanted to do something nice for you and Leila swallows the painful lump in her throat and asks him, is this how it's always going to be with you obviously not trusting me not to hurt myself again Bruno and she tells him, if i'd known that waking up and finding me gone would scare you and worry you, then I would have left you a note, i'm sorry, I won't make that mistake again and Leila tries to smile and fails, she understands why Bruno was worried and scared, but it hurts and she tells him, come and see your cakes and she walks over to the kitchen counter where the cakes she'd made for Bruno are sitting.

He can tell that he's hurt Leila but he doesn't know how and Bruno walks over to the kitchen counter and he stands beside Leila and smiles at the coconut cake and the chocolate cake that Leila has used red icing to draw a crown and under it she's written, you are my king and she's drawn a red heart underneath it and Bruno feels touched, he's missed Leila's cakes and he tells her, they look great, thank you baby, I can't wait to share a slice of them with you my queen and he kisses Leila and she pulls back from his kiss and tells him, you're welcomed and she asks him, how about I make us french toast for breakfast and if you've got room in your belly afterwards, you can have a slice of your cakes and he tells her, sounds good and Leila tells him, good, i'll get the coffee on first and she starts to walk away from him and Bruno pulls her into his arms and tells her, help me out here baby, I can tell that i've hurt you, but I don't know how and Leila tells him, it's ok Bruno, I guess it's going to take time for you to not think the worse when you don't know where I am and Leila shrugs and with her voice thick with tears she tells him, i'd probably feel the same if I was you and she kisses him and Bruno doesn't stop Leila when she pulls away from him, he doesn't know what to say to her, he can't deny what she's said and Bruno watches Leila as she gets the coffee on and he asks her, is there anything I can do to help and without looking at him Leila tells him, you can set the table if you want to and he tells her, consider it done and Bruno hopes that he can think of a way to end the tension that he can feel between him and Leila now.
