"Where are you taking me? You are not lost are you Niklaus?"
Niklaus held her hand as he guided her through the trees and into the forests that surrounded their home.
"Well that would be a horrid way to begin my thank-you," the man smirked, hair flipping across his shoulders as he looked back to her before looking ahead at their path.
"Niklaus, I told you, you don't have to thank me. I do not need it."
"On the contrary, not do you both need and deserve it, I want to thank you," the Viking responded, before stopping abruptly and stopping Isa gently before she bumped into him.
"Close your eyes."
Isa was wary. "Niklaus-"
"Trust me. Please."
Isa sighed as she closed her eyes and let out a squeal as she felt herself being hoisted up into Niklaus's arms.
"Do not dare peak, I beg of you," he said as he walked.
"Very well. But I cannot possibly fathom what kind of a thank you requires you to carry me, me to close my eyes and a secret location deep within the forest. It will likely take me so long to find my way back and Miss Tatia will be wondering where I am."
"Do not speak of her. For once, this has nothing to do with her and everything to do with you. So right now I want you to think of nothing but how you deserve to be thanked for all that you have done, not just for me."
"If I am honest, I cannot, because I am more occupied trying to guess where you could be taking me."
Niklaus chuckled as he stopped and gently set her on her feet.
"You may open your eyes now."
She was not prepared for the sight.
They stood at the edge of a small clearing where hundreds of gorgeous purple flowers grew.
Purple daffodils, she realised as she took tentative steps closer, their petals like silk in the warm sunlight that streamed through the canopy, giving the clearing a truly enchanting and almost magical look.
But what awed Isa the most, was the small blanket, set in the centre of the clearing, partly in the sun and partly in the shade, a blanket that was littered with food.
Her stomach involuntarily rumbled and she prayed with everything she had that Niklaus hadn't heard it.
"Do you like it?"
She turned to him, mouth still agape as the strands of hair that fell from her low bun blew into her face.
"You did all this for me?" she asked in disbelief and he smiled.
"Indeed."
"But why? I don't need or deserve this."
Niklaus only brushed some of her hair behind her ear, her cheeks blushing at his touch.
"Because it took me almost dying to notice you. To notice that you deserve more than to just be thanked, you deserve to be worshipped for all you do for Tatia, for all you did for me."
He took her hand as he led her into the field, sitting her down on the blanket before fixing her a plate of food that she denied.
Niklaus had sighed but said, "You do realise that it is quite rude to refuse a gift?"
"And you realise that it is absurd to gift someone with something so extravagant?"
"I could do much more extravagant if you'd like?"
