~Chapter 19: Don’t Lie
Adriana and the boys watched me. “What?” I said. “It really isn’t!”
“I WANNA KNOWWWWWWWWWWW,” Adriana begged.
I looked at her and arched one eyebrow. “Creep,” I muttered.
“Wait, Cordelia, you never told us why you came back to my house,” Adriana said, changing the subject.
My throat clenched up as I tried desperately to think of something to say. To lie, I corrected myself. Why can’t I do it anymore? I was so good before! I looked over at Niall. It’s him, I realised. He’s… changed me. Before I could say anything, Niall responded. “We came back because Cordelia only wanted to get her stuff. She wanted to spend a few more nights, but she didn’t want to live off your clothes and stuff.”
I blinked and looked at Niall surprisingly. “Oh, yeah,” I agreed, nodding.
Adriana broke out into a smile. “Really?! Ohmygosh! That’s fantastic! We can have nights out like this!” she squealed excitedly.
I sighed, exasperated. At least she doesn’t suspect anything, I thought. I glanced at Niall and smiled a little. I never thought just a few nights could change my life so much.

“Goodnight, boys,” I said. I got up to leave Adriana’s room. We had spent all day talking about… random stuff. I wasn’t even half paying attention to our conversation. I was too busy fooling around with Niall. He wouldn’t stop tickling me. I got kinda annoyed in the end.
“Night, Cordelia,” the boys responded. Niall got up from the couch and walk up to me. “I’ll take you to your room.”
“No, it’s fine, really. It’s just across the hall--,” I started, but Niall’s eyes told me he wanted to come. “Oh, okay. Thanks.” I felt strange for stopping myself. I never did that. Your stubbornness has disappeared, Cordelia, I thought. We walked out into the hallway and Niall shut Adriana’s door. “Okay, we’re here. You can go back now,” I said to Niall when we got to my door. I shifted my feet around the carpeted floor, unsure what to do. But still, Niall stood there, unwilling to go. “Uhh, Niall?” I asked. “Are you going back?”
“You ought to know the answer pretty well yourself,” Niall answered.
I felt my heart racing and pounding at the same time. “Uh, I…” I gulped. This is going to be a big step, I thought. “Well, uh, do you want to come in my room?” I asked, blushing.
Niall smiled and replied, “Do you remember this?” He pushed me up against the wall with one arm and whispered in my ear, “Do you still think I’m weird?”
I pushed him off of me, blushing even more, and answered, “No, you’re creepy!” But then we both laughed. “Come in,” I said, opening the door, leading him inside. I walked into the bathroom, locked the door, and got changed into a tanktop with little pajama shorts. “What do you want to do? I’m getting ready for bed,” I replied, watching him from the corner of my eye as I walked out.
“Cordelia, am I really this much of a stranger to you? Do you not know me?” Niall asked, walking towards me.
“I…” I backed up against the wall, the butterflies in my stomach appearing again. “I don’t… know…”
“Cordelia, do you like me? Be honest, do you?” Niall asked, pushing me onto the bed. He leaned over me. “Don’t lie.”
I went straight for it. “I don’t know,” I lied. “I don’t know what it feels like to like somebody.”
Niall lowered his face until it was inches from mine and whispered, “Well you’re about to find out.”
