Author's POV:

"Excuse me, I need to take this real quick, it's the people I'm staying there with," you say before stepping out of the room.

Namjoon nods and watches you walk over to the living room and peek out the blinds as you talk into your phone. He turns himself back towards the table, looking down at his half eaten steak.

"Are you okay, son?" his father asks. "You always finish your mother's steaks."

Namjoon looks up at his parents, both of their eyes filled with concern. He purses his lips together, trying to figure out the right words. He finally leans back in his seat, sighing as he looks down at his lap.

"Mom, you remember telling me about the prick that broke [Y/N]'s heart?"

"I do," she nods.

"That prick was me."

His parents are silent for a while, but Namjoon is too nervous to meet their eyes.

"Yeah we kinda figured that," his mom sighs, making Namjoon's eyes snap up to hers. His mouth hangs open slightly as she holds his gaze. "I know my son. The way you look at her is not the way someone looks at just a crush."

Namjoon bites into his lip to prevent the quivering, unsure if he's relieved or distressed.

"She looks at you the way your mom looked at me when we first got together," Mr. Kim smiles. "There was a time I hurt her in the past and she held the same sadness in her eyes as [Y/N]."

"Like father, like son," Mrs. Kim snorts.

"You hurt Mom?" Namjoon asks, surprised. He's hardly ever seen them fight his entire life.

"I did," he nods, setting his fork down. "She was a lot meaner to me than [Y/N] is to you though," he laughs.

"How did you win her back?"

"Consistency," they answer in unison. Mrs. Kim leans forward to rest her chin in her hand. "He just kept showing up. He kept proving his love. And he never wavered, even when I took my anger out on him."

"Just keep pursuing her intentionally and patiently," his dad says warmly. "Respect her boundaries, but be confident. Don't hold anything back. She's a great girl, and we support you no matter what."

Namjoon nods, trying to swallow the lump in his throat.

"That girl is madly in love with you, son," his mom smiles, stroking the back of his hand. "You should've heard the way she spoke of you earlier. She's hurt, but she also thinks the world of you."

"I know," he says shakily, looking back down at his plate. "I just don't know where to go from here. I acted so confidently in front of her, but I'm a mess."

"Let me give you a little help," she winks as Namjoon continues to stare at his plate.

"Sorry about that," you say softly, returning to your seat.

"You're not about to leave during this weather are you?" Mr. Kim asks with a concerned look on his face.

"Ah," you nervously rub the back of your neck. "I was actually going to ask if I could stay another hour or two? Just until the weather clears."

"Why don't you just stay the night?" Mrs. Kim asks, clapping her hands together. "It'll be midnight before the storm passes."

Namjoon's eyes snap up to his mom's face. This woman is a fucking genius. I'm buying her a Bugatti for Mother's Day.

"Oh no, no," you say frantically, putting your hands in front of you. "You've let me stay here and fed me and I been so kind to me I can't possibly take any more from y—"
