"Eldest sister-in-law, you're back. How is Mochou? Is he feeling alright?" Yichen asked the moment Meng Yao entered the yard.

"Brother-in-law Yichen, may I come in before you question me?" She said with a light chuckle.

"Sorry. I'm just a little worried."

"It's fine."

"Those rabbits?" Yichen questioned after finally noticing them in her arms.

"Mochou was kind enough to give them to us." Meng Yao said.

"You shouldn't have..."

"Yichen, Mochou gave them to us. To refuse would have been an insult to his generosity." She said stopping Yichen from saying anything more.

"I'll have to talk to him later about all the gifts." Yichen muttered. He spoke quietly but Meng Yao could still hear him.

"Perhaps you should take your own advice?" Meng Yao pointed out.

"What do you mean?"

"I'm referring to the eggs you hid in the steamer. Also the fact that our best pot
has disappeared." She said with another light chuckle.

Yichen couldn't help but blush a little as he took the basket of rabbits from Meng Yao.

"Yichen, these rabbits belong to the family. They aren't going to become your pets like the little quail hidden in your room." Meng Yao added before she disappeared into the house.

Yichen couldn't help but feel a little regretful when he looked down at the cage full of rabbits.

...

The next morning Yichen woke up early and decided to sneak away and go see Mochou. Despite his parents warnings he was really worried about Mochou and missed him a lot.

"It should be fine if I only go over for a few minutes. I'll pop in and check if everything is okay. He doesn't even have to know that I'm there." He told himself as he headed for the door.

"Yichen, where are you going?" His eldest brother asked.

"I was just going out for a little walk." Yichen said in a poor attempt to hide the truth.

"I see. I was actually hoping you could come to town with me today. I have a few books I ordered that need to be picked up and I was hoping you could get them. I'd get them myself but I will be busy at work." His elder brother Yi Ming said. He worked in town at the school teaching young children how to read and preparing them to take the state exams.

"Did Mom or dad ask you to keep me busy?" Yichen asked with suspicious eyes.

"They did. They assumed you would try to sneak away." Yi Ming admitted.

"I just want to check on him quick. Five minutes top." Yichen begged.

Yi Ming was a bit of a sucker for his younger brothers. Seeing how worried Yichen was and considering the time Yi Ming decided to give his little brother a hand.

"We can walk over for a few minutes. But you can't go inside his home or meet with him alone." Yi Ming said.

Yichen was excited to go. He grabbed his brother's arm and pulled him out the door.

As they walked Yi Ming decided to ask his younger brother about his plans.

"What kind of life do you intend to build together with Mochou?" Yi Ming asked.

"I'll do as I promised and start apprenticing with the village doctor." Yichen said.

"What else?"

"I'm not sure. Mochou and I haven't really talked about it yet." Yichen said.
