MARINETTE DUPAIN-CHENG WAS NOT SOMEONE YOU WOULD EXPECT TO BE A SUPERHERO. To start with, she was one of the clumsiest girls you could ever meet: always tripping over her own feet or even just air. She was always late to class, forever oversleeping or something else getting in the way. And she was a sweet girl who loved sewing and helping in her parents' bakery. No one would expect her to have the ability to be a superhero.
But, they were wrong.
She saved the life of someone caught in the middle of the street, having rushed into traffic without a second thought at the sight of an innocent in danger. Marinette thought nothing of the event, just happy the young man was alright. But then a package with her name on it was slipped through her doorstep. And when she opened it, out came a small being of immense power.
Tikki was to be her guardian in her new post as Ladybug. Of course, Marinette freaked out. Who wouldn't?
A small, flying, talking ladybug-like creature was saying she was meant to bear the mantle so many women had done for a millennia before her. Tikki said she was special but Marinette did not believe that. Of all people, how could she be special? How could she be chosen out of everyone out there?
But, surprisingly, Marinette found herself becoming a natural at her new position. And within no time, she was patrolling the streets of Arcadia, watching and waiting for something to happen.
Tikki had prepared her for many things. But not for seeing her classmate clad in armour running in the night with a couple of... trolls?
It turned out, he was the new Trollhunter — the protector, the champion, of Trollkind. And he had a big fight ahead of him. So, of course, Marinette could not stand by and do nothing so she started to help the Trollhunter with his missions. After all, the Ladybug and the Trollhunter had been allies since their artifacts had been created.
Marinette and Jim. A Trolhunter and a Ladybug. Two people with the weight of the world upon them.
But, as long as they had each other, they didn't have to bear it alone. And united, there was nothing they couldn't do.
