It has been over a year since the murder of his wife, Lily, and James Potter wishes every day that it is simply a nightmare that he will wake up from. Unfortunately, it isn't and in the wake of her death, James finds himself as a single parent to th...

Settling Renata in didn't seem very challenging enough as she had packed everything she had needed in her trunk, reminding James of his times at Hogwarts when his mother would practically overstuff with all the things she believed he "needed." But while Renata didn't complain about her room, James honestly found himself feeling quite guilty at the set up. Never thinking that he would put the third room to use outside of storage or something along those lines, he had taken the largest room and have given Harry the second largest room of the place. Leaving Renata with the smallest, which he felt was in poor taste since she had agreed to drop her own life to help them.
"Um, I'm so sorry about these arrangements, " he confessed to her that very same evening as she had been unpacking her trunk with the use of her wand, placing her clothes away. He stood in the doorway, wearing a frown that confused Renata because she didn't quite understand why he was apologising to her. He had done nothing wrong, at least, to her knowledge up until that point.
"I do not understand, " she replied, " what are you apologising about exactly, Mr Potter?"
"Well, it's just that your room is the smallest and that's just not right. Tomorrow I can switch you over to Harry's room, or if you'd be more comfortable, you could always switch rooms with me-"
He was cut off by the sound of her laughter and she obviously didn't think it was the appropriate response as she quickly covered her mouth with her hands and just peered up at him for a moment.
"Mr Potter, please, " she began after slowly dropping her hands back down, " you do not have to make such drastic changes. I am more than comfortable in this room. Size isn't an issue, it's just me, why would I need a bigger room? Besides, I am sure that you have situated your room to your liking and Harry has his set up the way he likes, I am more than fine with this layout. Please, don't trouble yourself over miniscule things."
James lifted his hand and rubbed the back of his head, suddenly feeling silly that he had offered it in the first place, even if it had felt like the right thing to do at the time.
"Right, well...goodnight," he said to her rather quickly, with an awkward wave of his head before he retreated to his room.
In passing Harry's room on the way, James stopped and poked his head in to see that Harry was sound asleep, curled up with several of his toys placed all around him. He had fallen asleep shortly after dinner and dessert, cuddling into Renata's side on the sofa after requesting that she read Babbitty Rabbitty again to him.
She had only made it to the third or fourth page before Harry fell into a light snoring.
Knowing that Harry had a tendency to fall asleep early into the evening and wake up early in the morning, James went back to Renata's room, to find her just finishing putting her belongings away. She was collecting her pyjamas to get ready for bed but as she looked towards the door, she jumped and gasped in fright at his sudden appearance.
