MARY POV
We continued to eat. Dylan stayed quiet and so did I. We would only speak if our parents said something to us. I had no idea what his problems was so I decided to stay quiet.
After dinner my parents decided to go have a few drinks.
“Mary and Dylan why don’t you guys go hang out for a while?” my dad asked
“Sure dad we will. What time do I have to be back?” I said agreeing to hang out since I don’t like to pick a fight over something like that.
“Anytime but not too late”
“Thanks dad, Are you ready to go Dylan?”
“Ugh” he groaned “Sure whatever”
I wonder what his problem is.
After walking in silence I decided to break the awkwardness.
“Dylan how is things? I haven’t seen you in years”
“Really” he laughed
“Yup” I said confused
“Good, what about you? How was Ireland?”
“Fine, Ireland was the best. Made some new friends”
“Of course you did”
“What does that mean?”
“Nothing, it’s just that I saw you on the news with some Irish dude”
“Whatever, so why are you being so mean to me? I mean we were friends weren’t we?”
“Yeah we were friends and me being mean, oh come on like you don’t know why”
“No I don’t”
“Like you didn’t know that this was a plan to get us together”
“What! I didn’t know. All my parents said that we were having dinner with their friends”
“Right” he said sarcastically
“I’m not lying”
“Ok, so are you single?” he asked
“Well…. Yes…but…no”
“Well which is it?”
“It’s complicated. I am not sure whether I’m single or not. Are you single?”
“No, I have a girlfriend her name is Emily”
“Oh cool I have a friend name Emily”
“Really”
“Yes she goes to school with me”
“Wait don’t you go to an all-girls school?”
“Yes why?”
“Emily goes to one as well. She is in year 12. Her last name is Walters”
“OH My God that my friends name. So you’re dating my friend”
“I guess so”
We continued walking until me reached a carnival. We enjoyed the rides and talked getting to know each other better as friends. Because there was no way I was going to date him since my heart belongs somewhere else and he’s got a girlfriend who is one of my close friends.
We had just exited one of the rides in the carnival until I had bumped into someone.
