Hope Lupin and Hermione Granger sat next to each other in the Great Hall. The Lupin girl had taken her friend down to breakfast to talk with herself and Cedric.
Cedric and Hope sat across from the Granger girl. The two had out their muggle pens and notepads which Hermione found funny.
"Why didn't you ever tell me about these?" Hope questioned, admiring her new red one. "Ced and I have had to get them like their drugs."
"I'll get you some over summer." Hermione laughed.
"Anyways, J and I have almost cracked the case." admitted Cedric. "At least, we think."
The Granger girl raised her eyebrows. "You think?"
"Well, we think it is a Basilisk." she explained.
"What's a Basilisk?"
The Diggory boy pulled out a sketch. "It's a serpent, one of the most dangerous creatures. One of the only known to petrify too."
"But, if you stare into its eyes, it kills you." Hope further explained. "So, why are people being petrified and not killed?"
"Now, Parseltongue speakers can control it. But, the only known speaker here is Harry." Cedric told Hermione.
The girl's brown eyes got wide suddenly. "I have to go. I'll explain later."
"Where are you going?"
"The library!"
"But what about the Quidditch match?!"
Hermione turned around. "I'll be there, don't worry!"
