CHAPTER 9 - She Strikes Again

Monday. My long-awaited Monday. My yaya was so glad that I was back with my old self. Okay na ako. Natawagan ko na nga sila Mom and Dad and just as I expected,  napagalitan nila ako. I didn't mind. Not at all. I'm in an awesome mood. I feel rejuvenated. The plan has been set in motion.

Pasakay na ako ng kotse at mag papahatid na sana kay Mang Robert ng tumunog pa ang phone ko. Darn it. Way to interrupt.

I picked up my phone and saw my cousin's name as the incoming caller.

 Wow, nag paramdam din siya sa wakas.  

Feeling less annoyed, I answered it.

"Well, well. Look whose finally out of the sticks.. How's it going Fiel?"

It took a minute before she answered. I didn't mind. I miss Fiel. Ang tagal namin walang communication sa kaniya. It has been two months since the last.

"Hey. How are you?"

 
I chuckled. She's acting as if nothing happened. Humanda ka kay Lauren. You'll never hear the end of it. Tigas kasi ng ulo. Inulit niya na naman yung ginawa niya before.

"I'm good. Are you in Manila now? When did you come back?" Sumakay na ako ng kotse at pina alis na si Mang Robert. Baka ma-late ako. Traffic pa naman kapag Monday. Paharang harang na naman ang mga PUVs sa daan. Nakaka dagdag lang sila ng congestion sa kalsada.

Fiel Jansen together with Lauren Divinagracia are my maternal cousins. Sila lang so far ang kilala ko na relatives sa side ni Mom. Sa The Netherlands kasi naka base ang mga Jansen kaya hindi ko pa na meet lahat ng mga relatives ko doon. Eldest child ang father ni Fiel while my mom is the youngest.

Anyway, Fiel is a 25 years old licensed Radiologist. She and a group of five other doctors have been conducting medical missions in the rural areas of Luzon. Last year sa Cagayan Valley sila. They're giving free operations, check-ups and they donate medicines and whatnot to the less fortunate as well. Binibisita din nila ung mga health centers para ma-inform ang DOH sa mga pangangailan nito. 

Well, I'm proud of Fiel and all but, months of not being able to know if she's okay is too much for me and Lauren. Nakakainis yung habit niya na bigla nalang aalis at hindi man lang mag papaalam. We tried calling her everyday pero laging out of reach ang phone niya.

"The day before yesterday. Look, I need to go. I was just checking up on you."

I can't help but roll my eyes with that. It's so nice of you to check up on me pero hindi mo man lang ako sinabihan na aalis ka at kung saan ka pupunta. Kaya nagagalit si Lauren sa kaniya eh. Well, Lauren's the eldest among us and she made us her responsibility especially kapag wala ang parents namin. 

"Oh no, not so fast. Tinawagan mo na ba si Lauren?"

I can almost see her fidgeting from the other line. Hindi din siya sumagot. Feeling guilty now, huh?
