Dream wandered back to his apartment and opened the old, creaky door. He ditched the food platter from early, heading straight for his bedroom.

He collapsed onto his old, ruggedy, and moth-eaten mattress and stared out the window, watching the fire burn into nothing.

He wanted nothing more than to sleep but he couldn't. His mind was stuck on the conversation he had earlier. He suddenly felt excited for the next day. Maybe hell wasn't so bad.

He heard a clatter, his long ears pinning against his head and he rolled his eyes in annoyance. His neighbor above him had obviously dropped or smashed a plate again. The dude had anger issues.

He forced his eyes shut and tried to drown out the noise and found he was alone with his thoughts again. George was intriguing. He had seemed scared at first, which was no surprise to Dream, though he refused to admit to himself that he had also been startled.

He couldn't help but wonder how it felt to once be human. Or someone who lived at one point. Altogether the thoughts were depressing and his mind finally grew blank as he drifted to sleep.

When he woke, he sat up groggily. He could already hear the fire crackling in a rather annoying way. He could already feel himself growing agitated as he stood up and stumbled drowsily to the kitchen. He took out the stale bread and stuck it in the old toaster that looked like it was ready to break and burst into flames any second.

The toaster popped, scaring the shit out of Dream. He shook his head and grabbed his toast. Taking a lazy bite while he trailed to the living room and lazily flopped onto the couch.

He finished his toast and looked around.

" Patches? " He called, scanning the small living space. His eyes landed on his cat, who was casually walking through the wall. The ghost cat looked up at him with lazy eyes. He smiled and the reddish cat became more opaque before hopping onto Dream's lap and laying down.

" Hi there. " He cooed to the feline, running his hand over the cat's back. Patches purred loudly in response. Dream gave the smallest smile, he was such a softie for his cat.

He sighed lamely and stood up, he brushed the cat fur off his shirt and walked out of the apartment.

He knew he would be late to meeting George if he waited any longer, the walk to the border was a very long one.

He watched the flames rise from the corner of his eye. Looking forwards again he could see the border in the distance. He stuck his clawed hands in his hoodie pocket.

He sat down in front of the border, humming to himself. He looked up at the soft patter of footsteps. George had a surprised look.

" How did you hear me? I can't even hear myself. " He chuckled.

" These. " Dream picked up a floppy ear before perking them upright.

" Th- Those are very intimidating upright. " Stammered George sheepishly. Dream laughed and let them flop again.

" How's Heaven? " He asked. Glancing away.

" Well I guess it's comfortable. It's pretty boring though. Makes me wish I still had my phone. " He hummed.

" What's a phone? " Asked Dream as his interest piqued. He sat up right with his ears perked. He had a hand slammed down on his tail so it would stop wagging.

George laughed. Adoring the sight in front of him. " A phone is a thing.. Humans could play with and use it to keep in contact with others. " He started slowly and Dream involuntarily tilted his head.

" That's so weird! But so cool! " Dream said eagerly.

" Yeah. I used to be a streamer. " Chuckled George, his eyes clouding over with longing. Dream frowned.

" What's a streamer? " He asked.

" Well, I would play games and other people could watch on their phones, it was my job. " Reminisced George.

Dream gave a huff, snapping George out of his trance. " What? " He asked with raised eyebrows.

" That sounds fun. I would've wanted to be a streamer. " Complained Dream.

" I streamed with my friend Nick. He went by sapnap online though. "

" Online?? " Dream was very lost. George smirked and shook his head.

" Nevermind, I just. I miss Sapnap. " George sighed, staring down and refusing to look up.

Dream frowned and hesitated before reaching across the border, his heart pounded as he waited for something to happen. But nothing did. Frowning he pulled George into a hug. Only once had Dream been hugged.

He just knew it was comforting.

George was stiff for a moment before hugging back with soft sniffles.

" Hey- it's- it's okay. I'm sure he misses you just as much. " Dream empathized. Shifting on his... hooves.

" Remind me why you're in hell again? " George snorted, pulling away with a frown.

" Born here. " Dream responded dully, looking down.

George shook his head. " You sure don't deserve to be stuck there. " He mumbled.

Dream's gaze softened as he gave a tiny smile. " Sure I do. "

George looked up, tilting his head. " what- "

" I'm an imp. No matter my personality I'm stuck here. A creature of hell. " dream said with a sad frown. " I don't have enough emotional range to make a good angel. "

George leaned against the tall blonde. " That's not true. " He retorted. Dream chuckled dryly. It died down quickly.

" Y'know.. You're my first friend. " Dream remarked. George's eyes widened in response.

" Really? You're so nice though! " He frowned.

" I've said it before and I'll say it again. Demon's don't like socializing, Especially not with an imp. " He said flatly.

" What- why? " George looked up at Dream.

" Imps are lower class. " Dream answered with a shrug.

" Didn't you say imps were rare though? "

" That doesn't make them respected. " Dream furrowed his eyebrows.

The two sat in comfortable silence for a little longer until the flames died entirely.

" Border patrol will be here soon. Same time tomorrow? " Dream spoke up.

" Yeah. See you then. " George stood up.

Dream nodded and did the same, his ears lowering as he walked back home. Once he was back he finally ate off the platter before giving the rest to Patches.

Dream then moped to his room and flopped onto his bed. He couldn't help but wonder what had happened to George. Or what his life was like before he died. He rolled over and shut his eyes, falling asleep surprisingly quickly.

Any critiques or tips? :)))
