Virgil was a player; he knew it, his friends knew it, everyone in school knew it. Everyone except poor, sweet, innocent Patton. Patton liked to see the best in people, for a reason Virgil still didn't understand.

Unfortunately, the emo and his excitable best friend began casually dating, bringing the two closer, making it harder for Virgil to break things off. He could tell Patton was falling for him. ('Who wouldn't?' Virgil would often think to himself.) To avoid being hated for breaking the puffball student's heart, Virgil was trying to ease him away as gently as he could.

"It's really cold." Patton pointed out as he shivered lightly. Virgil nodded, seemingly absentminded when, in reality, he was paying extra attention to Patton's body language. When the shorter boy smiled contentedly and wrapped his arms around himself, not staring at Virgil in that baffled and confused way that most people do, the emo felt himself become guiltier.

He reluctantly pulled his sweater off and wrapped it around Patton's shoulders. Patton smiled wider and cuddled into the sweater before laying his head on Virgil's shoulder. Virgil's cheeks glowed...but it was totally because of the weather.

"Hey, do you guys want to come to my art show? It'd be really cool, and it could be a fun night." Everyone in their friend group mumbled out excuses as to why they couldn't go. Patton seemed a little disappointed as he looked to Virgil with those big eyes Virgil was weak for. "Vivi? Can you go?"

"I..." I have plans that night, sorry. It was right there on the tip of his tongue, the excuse he'd been coming up with since Patton brought it up. But with the way Patton looked at him, Virgil found himself nodding at his boyfriend. Patton gasped and smiled. "Really? Thank you so much, Vi! I can't wait to see you there."

"Virgie, we've been dating for about five months now," Patton said carefully. Virgil's eyes nearly widened, 'It's been five months? I've been trying to break up with him for three months?' "And I was wondering if you'd like to meet my parents." He ended in a questioning tone.

Virgil nodded before he even had time to think about what he was doing. Patton squealed and went on a rant about how he'd love his parents. As Virgil watched the boy excitedly go on about his family, he found that he couldn't break up with Patton because maybe he didn't want to.

Patton was different; Virgil broke things off with his partners because he was scared. Scared of their expectations, their hopes, their love. But with Patton, Virgil wasn't afraid of how close he wanted to get with the boy or how intimate their relationship could be; he was, for once, excited. He wanted to know more about Patton, to spend time with him, to share memories with him.

"Hey, Patt?" Patton paused, mid-sentence, and hummed inquisitively at Virgil; he offered his full attention to him, another trait the emo boy felt he'd never tire of. "Do you think I should bring something for your parents?" Patton beamed once more and began listing off things that his parents love. 'Yeah, maybe this isn't so bad.'
