Remus felt his heart stop as Patton giggled. Never before had he met someone so beautiful, this feeling was new. A blush spread across his cheeks, how could someone be this adorable? Remus couldn't answer his own question but he knew one thing for sure, he wanted to see Patton like this forever.

"You really like this guy, huh?" Remus's brother Roman teased. Remus nodded excitedly, "Well, bro, I'm happy for you. Go get him, tiger." "Dear Zeus, never say that again." Remus playfully said with a chuckle.

Now that they were dating, Remus decided to introduce Patton to his friends. They were a big group, most people would've gotten overwhelmed, but not Patton. Another thing Remus liked about the boy was that he was very social, he could face any situation with a huge amount of confidence.

Patton unfortunately had to leave early since he had to go to work. Remus felt a buzz in his pocket, probably a text message from Patton.

Patt 💙: I didn't like Roman, he seems really dependent on you

Remus looked up at his brother who was playfully arguing with Logan.

You: he's more confident than i am. if anything, i'm dependent on him

Patton texted back in no time at all.

Patt 💙: I don't want you being around him anymore. If you have to, stick with a group.

Right, Patton was so protective of Remus, it was honestly heart-warming. Remus understood that Patton just wanted what was best for him. A frown graced his face at the text message but he knew, deep down, he was warmed by Patton's concern.

"You okay, Remus?" Roman asked. Remus forced a small smile, "Yeah, just thinking. I'm all good."

Tears streamed down Remus' face, he chuckled a bit and wiped his tears a bit. Bruises colored his body, a single black bruise rimmed his right eye. Patton always said laughter was the best medicine. Maybe if Remus laughed enough, Patton would remain the happy, adorable boy Remus had come to love.

Roman's contact stared back at Remus, all he had to do was click on it. But he didn't, he couldn't. They hadn't spoken for weeks, Remus had to fix this himself, right?

"Remus, please tell us who did this to you." Logan said carefully. "I'm sorry I haven't talked to you guys in a while." Remus said quietly, Virgil shook his head gently. "Re, it's okay. We aren't mad, we're worried about you. Please tell us who did this to you." Remus scanned their reactions. Logan looked slightly scared, Virgil seemed to barely be keeping his calm facade together, Roman was the most agitated, his tense shoulders and a cold glare at the floor made Remus a little reluctant.

"It was Patton." Remus mumbled, flinching when Roman punched the wall. Logan and Virgil comforted him, telling him how proud they were that he was brave enough to tell them. Remus glanced at Roman as he paced around the room before grabbing his car keys.

Logan quickly stood in front of him. "Get out of my way-"

"What are you doing?"

"I'm gonna kill that stupid ass-face. Now move."

"Roman, you could get arrested, we don't need the extra stress right now. Sit. Down."

"So you're really going to tell me you don't care that Remus is hurt?"

"I care, but you're lashing out. You need to sit down and relax." Roman huffed and sat down at the table, now glaring at the piece of furniture.

'Did I do the right thing?' Remus thought. If this was right, why didn't he feel right? Patton yelled at him, he'd hit him, controlled him. He had broken the windows of his car after assuming Remus was cheating, his smile always seemed forced around Remus, they were always fighting, Patton was a terrible person. But Remus couldn't bring himself to hate him, he still loved him.

Roman had let him stay at his house for the week, protecting him from Patton. Remus needed to see him one last time, just once. He wrote him a letter, he wanted to deliver it to him in person. So, he walked the 2 miles to his house, even on the hottest summer day. He wrote everything, how he knew he would do anything for Patton, whether it was getting hit by a car or taking a bullet for the man, anything. But he knew Patton would never do the same, he didn't love him enough.

Remus arrived to see Patton with another man, Patton spotted Remus through the window, sending an unimpressed glance at him. Arms wrapped around Patton's torso before he closed the curtains. Remus felt himself break apart at that. He knew Patton didn't care, he expected this and expected to be hurt, but he didn't think it'd hurt this much. He put the note neatly inside the mailbox, the one they'd painted together when they first moved in.

Remus smiled sadly, he really was an idiot. He went back to the person who hurt him multiple times, he still loved him, he knew Patton didn't return the affection and he still went back. Remus processed where he was, the bridge he and Roman would play on as kids. After they'd gotten older, the twins used the spot for their various partners, utilizing the romantic scenery to woo their possible suitors.

Remus couldn't hear anything, everything seemed as if it were all moving faster than he was used to. He yanked back from...somewhere. Roman had tears in his eyes, he was screaming something that Remus couldn't hear or decipher. "-wrong with you?!"

"How did you know where I was?" Remus mumbled, dumbly. "Y-You called me." Roman said in a quieter tone. Remus looked down, seeing his phone in his hand, the recent calls list flooded with Roman's contact name. "I called you?" He mumbled to himself.

"Remus, what's going on? You call me in the middle of the night, talking about a bridge that we haven't been to in years. Then I come here and you're climbing the railing of the bridge and I was so scared that I was too late and-" Roman cut himself off and pulled his brother into a tight hug.

"I just want my brother back, I don't want to lose you again." Remus finally broke out of his daze, hugging Roman back and allowing tears to freely fall.
