Phil's P.O.V
I stared at him wide-eyed through my fringe.
"Are you joking?" I asked.
He laughed. "Kinda".
"Phew! I thought you were serious for a second! You know I like Dan right? Okay?" I had to be sure.
He sighed and hesitated for a moment.
"Look, Phil, I get that, but you wanna know if Dan likes you back? So we fake it and 'be together, It's the best way to see Dan's reaction" he laughed. 'Think about it, nothing has to change, but its like a test for Dan'
I considered it. I guess it could work, I wouldn't have to do anything with him, it'd be just like normal, it'd be an excuse to spend more time together and a possible chance to see if Dan really doesn't feel the same, either way, it doesn't change much.
"Sure" I said.
His face lit up, why was he so excited? It was just fake.
I smiled, okay then.
"Okay, so how long have we been dating? I'll tell Dan I kept it secret" I said, tapping my fingers on the table.
"8 months, say we met through college and struggled for years to hide our feelings for each other blah blah" he stated, as if he'd already thought it through.
"O-okay?" I laughed uneasily, why had he thought this through? It's reached strange measures.
"We should probably order" he said, pulling up a new menu.
"I'll just have coffee" I said, this was strange right?
Would this even work? Maybe it'd at least stop Dan's flirting.
"You sure? You haven't eaten today yet, is something wrong?" He asked, he sounded concerned, I was confused. I wasn't sure if I was doing the right thing or not, it had its ups and downs.
He squeezed my arm reassuringly, and smiled.
"I'm okay, just not hungry" I laughed, why was he so worried about this?
In the end he got coffee too and a hasty waitress scribbled down the order, clearly unimpressed we took so long to order a simple coffee.
I had a sudden craving for coffee cake and decided I'd have to buy some before going home, share it with Dan while I tell him about 'my boyfriend'.
I squirmed at the thought. Not because it was another man, but because it wasn't Dan I could at least fake with.
The tears welled up in my eyes. Dan.
I'm not a fag so don't treat me like one.
I wiped my eyes firmly blinking over and over, please don't do this here Phil.
I don't love you.
The tears were stinging on edge, threatening to spill, fuck. I looked up, my eyes filling with the tears and my vision blurring.
I was kinda hoping they'd fall back into my eyes rather than spill down my cheeks, it would be so hopelessly embarrassing.
"I'm going to the bathroom" I said standing up.
I couldn't see clearly, damn my eye sight was off.
"Okay" he called out.
I staggered into the bathroom, bunching up several tissues into my hand and wiping my eyes hard.
Don't cry. Don't cry. Don't cry Phil!
As I realised I'd be okay, suddenly a women staggered into the restroom on her phone.
She looked up at me and looked mortified.
You're kidding me? I didn't...
No.
"Oh! Fu-" she begun.
"No I'm so sorry! I had something in my eye! I came to clear it out and I couldn't see the signs so I came into the wrong room, I'm so sorry! I have a boyfriend! So I'm not doing what you think!" I stammered. This couldn't get any worse.
"Oh? I'm sorry, uh okay" she seemed a little creeped out but didn't make a fuss, she trusted me to leave and walked into a stall.
I sped towards the door, once on the outside, checking to see if this was actually my reality.
Yeah, I'd gone into the girls bathroom.
