Sam clearly saw the message from Christian. But she didn't say anything. She knew that what she had with Amelia is purely sex and nothing more. Pero bakit ang sakit pa ring umasa?
Sm put her head on the table next to the bed of her father. Pinipigilan niya ang sarili na umiyak. Kaya ang nangyari ay naiipon lahat sa lalamunan niya. It hurts pero mas gusto niya pang maramdaman ang physical pain kesa isipin kung kailan siya iiwan ni Amelia.
After the plane landed. Sinabi niya kay Amelia that she could be by herself pero hindi siya nito iniwan. Amelia stayed with her hanggang sa mailipat ang Dad niya sa isang kwarto.
She wants to protest about it pero matigas ang ulo ni Amelia at sinamahan pa rin siya nito.
"B-Boss. I can take it from here. M-Magpahinga ka muna."
Amelia shook her head. "Sam. Hindi naman ako ganung klase ng babaeng. We had sex, yes but after that I am not that insensitive to let you go alone."
Sam opened her mouth to say something but she closed it again. Alam niyang matigas ang ulo ni Amelia. The only reason her boss was still with her is because Amelia choose to be. Kung hindi ay madali na kay Sam na sabihin ditong umalis ito sa tabi niya and Amelia would gladly do so if her boss chooses.
It's hard for her to still be with Amelia in her father's presence dahil sa ipinapakita nitong concern sa Dad niya. She knows what she saw and she knows what she heard.
Hindi niya lang alam kung saan siya ngayon mag f-focus, sa sakit na nararamdaman sa dibdib niya because of the realization that she had fallen in love with her boss. Or the fact that her father is in the hospital fighting for his life?
Amelia rubbed Sam's arms. "I'm here, Samantha. Di kita iiwan ngayong kailangan mo ako."
Then Amelia smiled. The endearing smile that she would mostly missed kapag sinabi na nitong sawa na ito sa kanya.
The day na muntik nang may mangyari dito. She had never been that scared in her entire life for someone's life, maliban sa ina niya.
Amelia had managed to creep into her heart. Hindi niya maintindihan pero kahit gusto niyang ilayo ang loob dito. Heto at ito pa rin ang kusang lumalapit. At siya? She was also fluttering closer to the flame until it burned her.
"Kamusta siya?"
Sam looked up and her heart pounded against her chest nang makita ang babaeng kanina pa laman ng utak niya.
Amelia walked towards her then offered her a bottle of water and a burger.
Isang tipid na ngiti ang ibinigay niya dito at kinuha ang ibinibigay nito.
Her boss sat on the opposite chair and looked at her father. Napatingin din dito si Sam.
Her father was pale and his lips are also dry. Kanina pa din nakakunot ang noo nito. Maybe he was in too much pain that he was furrowing his eyebrows.
Pinauwi niya muna ang personal nurse ng dad niya dahil alam niyang pagod din ito. Pinalitan nila ang nurse nang maabutan nila. At mukhang wala pa itong tulog kakaasikaso sa dad niya.
"H-He's doing alright. Mabuti daw at naisugod agad dito sa hospital. Kung hindi---"Kinusot ni Sam ang mga mata niya para pigilan ang luhang nag babadyang tumulo sa mga mata niya. "H-He would be a goner."
"Sam.... I'm sorry. I shouldn't have taken you to the island. Maybe---"
Agad na umiling si Sam. Ngumiti siya ng pilit. "He wants me to be there. Nag paalam ako sa Dad ko. He wants me to be under your tutelage so much. Hangang hanga siya sayo."
Amelia's mouth opened and she smiled. "Your old man supported me from the time I had the hotel. He was the major investor afterall. Pero hindi niya iyon ginagawang bargain sa mga transaction sakin. In fact, he was so kind. Hindi ko malilimutan ang sinabi niya sakin dati."
Her boss smiled again. "He said. I want to help you because a young woman like you who had the drive to be succesfull will make it someday and I don't want to miss that opportunity to be working with you."
Sam shook her head and smiled at her father. "He was never that kind of man to me. Lagi niya akong sinisinghalan at pinapagalitan. Yet at the same time I know that its because I am always in trouble. Hindi ko na siya nabigyan ng maayos na bersiyon ko. I was the only child and I am a troublemaker."
"Your father did his best for you. Sana ay maintindihan mo iyon Sam."
Amelia then scooted closer to her and put a hand on her hand. Napatingin tuloy doon si Sam. Again, her heart thundered against her chest. Ang lambot ng kamay nito at ang init. There was something in it that made Sam looked at Amelia.
Nagkatitigan silang dalawa at ito na ang unang nag bawi ng tingin. "I-I'm sorry, Sam. Nailang ka ba?"
Aalisin na sana nito ang kamay na nakapatong sa kamay niya nang mahigpit niya itong hinawakan. She doesn't want to let Amelia go. Gusto niyang andito ito sa tabi niya. It was the support that she needed ngayong nakaratay ngayon sa hospital ang Dad niya.
Inangat nito ang tingin sa mukha niya.
Sam stared back and with an intensity that she thought she never would have done to anyone.
"Don't let me go."
"Sam...." There was a conflicted emotion that passed on Amelia's face. Shock, sadness then guilt and another emotion reflected in those brown eyes na hindi niya mabasa. Amelia lowered her gaze. "Why are you saying that Sam."
Sam looked at Amelia's hands. Compared to her hands. Maliit ang mga kamay nito. Yet, she felt safe habang hawak nito ang mga kamay niya. She felt protected and warm. Pero habang hawak niya ang mga kamay nito. Tila papalamig ng papalamig ang nararamdaman niya.
Kaya habang mainit pa ang mga kamay nito ay binitawan niya na iyon. Umiling siya at muling tumingin sa Dad niya.
"I-I'm sorry, Boss. If you want to go home and changed, pwede ka na munang umuwi. Kaya ko na 'to."
"K-Kaya mo na ba talaga?"
Amelia tried to take a look at her face pero umiwas si Sam.
"Go, before I changed my mind." And forced you to stay with me. I would beg if I have to. Pero hindi niya na lang sinabi iyon.
Maybe it's time that she let go of the Amelia that she had known these past few months, dahil para dito. Isa lamang siyang laruan. A toy in exchanged for the real one she had. Isa pa, Amelia is still married and in her boss's mind Sam is still Christian's mistress.
She reached out a hand to touched her father's hands.
A few seconds had passed by pero hindi ito umalis sa harap niya. Napatingin tuloy siya sa deriksiyon nito.
Nakasimangot ito habang nakatingin sa kanya. "If you think I will go and leave you here. You had another thing coming. Uuwi ako para kumuha ng damit ko at ng damit mo. Ayaw mo naman sigurong mag amoy ewan habang nag babantay sa Dad mo. I'll change and I'll get you something to change into. Then I'll buy us a dinner and you will eat. Naiintindihan mo ba?"
Napanganga na lang si Sam nang inirapan siya nito at umalis sa harap niya. Her boss muttered something bago ito tuluyang lumabas ng kwarto.
"She's asking me not to go pero the next thing she was pushing me away!"
Pero hindi iyon naintindihan ni Sam kaya naman itinagilid niya ang ulo niya.
