I Made a Promise

Chapter 63

-2 days later-
~Skylar's POV~
Daniel and I have work today.
We actually haven't told Diego and Julia yet because they were busy. So we'll tell them today at work. We haven't told anyone at all about the pregnancy. But Daniel and I are going to tell David and Lia and Kyle and Liz soon.

We haven't seen David and Lia in a few weeks, but I talk to Lia about 3-4 times. And Liz knows somethings up with me. She always asks me what's wrong, and I always reply with the same answer, 'just extra tired today'.

Daniel and I were both getting ready for work. We have a 5 am to 8pm shift today. I have mixed emotions about starting to work at a desk. My body is shot, so I'm happy to finally get be able to work, while not killing myself. But I'm also a little upset that I can't be active anymore at work like I used to. However, I know my body just needs the break.

I was curling my hair for work and Daniel came behind me.
"Hey babe, we have to leave in 5 minutes." He said.
"Ok, I just have 2 more pieces left." I told him.

Once I finished my hair. We were out the door.
"You got the bag right?" I told Daniel.
"Yes, in the trunk." He said.
We got a little bag with just a onesie and a sonogram photo to surprise Daniel's parents with.

Once we got to the district, we went upstairs and to the locker room.
Before Daniel and I went back out, Julia came in the locker room.
"Skylar, Diego and I need to see you." She told us.
"Uh yea, we do too." Daniel said.

Daniel grabbed the bag and followed Julia to Diego's office.
Diego had the file in his hand as we walked in.
"Hey, how come I got a file saying that you have to start a desk position today?" He asked me.

I looked at Daniel.
He put the bag on his desk.
"What's this?" Diego asked us.
"You two might wanna open it." I said.

They opened the bag and took out the onesie and sonogram.
Julia jaw dropped and she looked at us.
I smiled and nodded my head.
"Hey, you guys are finally gonna give us some grandchildren!" Diego laughed.

"Aww this is so great!" Julia laughed and hugged us.
"Yea, so my doctor decided that I cannot work anymore actively, so she gave me two options: a desk position, or stop working entirely. And I knew I didn't want to stop working all together just yet, so I chose the desk job." I said.

"How far along are you now?"she asked me.
"3 months." I said.
"Congrats you two." Diego hugged us too.
"Thanks, so how would it work? Me being at a desk?" I asked him.

"Basically just what it sounds like. You'll be a desk or just here. Paperwork, and just analyzing work." He explained.
I nodded my head.
"I'm surprised you actually worked until now." Diego said.

-1 week later-
We told everyone about the pregnancy. Last week They all congratulated Daniel and I and were happy for us.
I was at my desk and Liz was the only one with me at the district. Everyone was at a scene.

"Are you going to find out the gender of the baby?" Liz asked me.
"Yea. I think my OB said around 20 weeks." I told her.
"Are you excited?" Liz asked me.
I chuckled and nodded my head.
"Yea, I've been so sick and miserable, but I'm also just so happy.." I laughed.

Then I got a call from Maxx.
"Hey, I'm gonna take this." I said. I got up and went into the locker room.
I was a bit confused why Maxx was calling me. He never does.

"Hey Maxx, what's up?" I asked him.
"Hey Sky. How are you doing?" He asked me.
"I'm good, what about you?" I asked him.
"Yea I'm good... how are things with Daniel?" He asked
"Things are good.. you know... how are things at home?" I asked him.

"It's going good... are you doing anything right now?" he said.
"I'm at work, but I'm not busy right now... are you ok? You never call me." I told him.
"Yea I'm good.. just wanted to check up on you." He said.

"I'm good. Yea I'm ok. Don't you start school soon? Senior year... big year.." I chuckled.
"Yea.. yea... I gotta go now. Bye" he chuckled.
"Love you, I'll talk to you later." I told him.

Once he hung up, I looked at my phone for a second and played around with it in my hands.
"That was weird.." I said under my breath.
"Hey Skylar." Liz came in.

I turned around.
"Yea what's up?" I asked her.
"Wanna go grab a bite to eat?" She asked me.
"Yea sure I'm starving." I said.
I grabbed my jacket and we went down to a car.

We stopped at a little empanada shop.
"Detectives, your usuals?" Chris, the owner, asked us. He knows us well since basically the whole unit is regulars here.
We both laughed and nodded our heads.
"Hey Chris, how've you been?" I asked him.

"Can't complain. Business has been great lately. Ever since the schools opened back up last week, we've had so many people coming in between 11 and noon." He explained.
"Yea that's right, I forget the schools here start a week earlier than back at Chicago." I said.

"Any cool cases you guys have been working on?" He asked us.
"Not really. Been pretty boring." Liz said.
"A little birdie told me you and Daniel are having a baby." Chris told me.
I looked at him a bit surprised and laughed.

"Who told you that?" I chuckled.
"Daniel told me a few days ago when he came by one night to get some food." He told me.
I chuckled.

"Well, yes it's true." I smiled.
"Congrats. The baby likes my food?" He laughed.
"You bet. It's one of the only things I can keep down." I chuckled.
"What would you guys like to drink?" He asked us.
"I'll take a sprite." Liz said.
"I'll take an iced tea." I told him.

Chris gave us the bag of food and drinks.
"Ok, here you two are." He said.
"Thanks, how much?" Liz asked.
"You know the rule, free of charge." He replied.
I looked at him.

"Come on, Chris. We do this every time." I told him.
"You guys are my regulars. And you keep the streets safe." He told us.
Liz put a 50 in the top jar like she always does.
"You guys." He said.
"Nope, you deserve it." I smiled.

He nodded his head and we left.
Liz and I ate in the car as we talked.
"Have you told your parents about the pregnancy yet?" She asked me.
"Uh no, we actually aren't even planning on telling them. We're just going to sort of avoid them, and then have them come over and just have a baby." I chuckled.

"Well that's one way. Just like, surprise!" Liz laughed.
I laughed too and nodded my head.
"We should start heading back now. Shift's almost over." Liz said.
"Yea let's go." I said.

We got back to the district and everyone was back.
"Where were you guys?" Daniel asked us.
"Relax, we just went to Chris'. It's not like I took your wife to some mass shooting." Liz joked around with Daniel.
I laughed under my breath and shook my head.

-end of shift-
Daniel and I were in the locker room, about to leave.
"You know, I got a call from Maxx today.. and I don't know... something felt weird..." I told Daniel, leaning my back on my locker as he was still in his.
"Weird how?" He asked me.
"I'm not sure... but he never calls me." I told him

"Maybe he was bored? What did you guys talk about?" He asked me.
"Basically just how are you, and how are things with you and me. That's it. Then he had to go." I said.
Daniel looked at me and a b to the total why don't you soon as I wanted to go back-and-forth back-and-forth back-and-forth like why can't they do everything like in like order it confused
"Huh, that's weird... do you know if anything's going on at home with him?" He asked me.

I shook my head.
"I'll talk to him tomorrow about it..." I said.
"Let's go home now." He said, closing his locker.
"Yea let's go, I'm exhausted for some reason." I chuckled.
"Well, we know the reason.." he laughed and put his hand on my growing stomach.

It was starting to grow more. There's a small bump there forming. I smiled up at him and gave him a kiss.
"Let's go home." I smiled. He wrapped his arm around me and kissed me again.
