"Krystal?"

Lisa immediately recognized Krystal's voice.

"I'm really sorry, I should've called earlier. But when I got here, it took me a while to get adjusted... so there was a lot of fumbling about. I also had to apply for a bunch of random stuff."

"What about now, are you all done?"

"Yeah, I am. How are you doing?"

"I'm good, you?"

"I'm good too. The air is really clean here, and my parents can help me take care of the baby. I plan on going back to work in a while."

"That's great. Director Jung told me that you were doing well, I'm really happy for you."

"My uncle told me that you're a doctor now, congratulations."

"Thank you."

"Have you seen... Kai lately?" Krystal suddenly asked.

"Yeah, a while back he came to see me at South Side and asked me to lend him 100k. I refused."

"Don't lend him money," Krystal warned her.

"Why not? Do you know what he's been up to recently?" Lisa had a feeling that Krystal knew more.

"He's still dating Dahyun. They've been addicted to gambling recently and lost a bunch of money... Kai's apartment wasn't rented out; it was mortgaged... He's useless now and will lose everything no matter how much you lend him."

"How did this happen?" Lisa was a little taken aback.

"It's all because of Dahyun... I knew nothing good would come from them fooling around... Before I left the country, I hired a private investigator. Apparently, Dahyun is a gambler too and has a lot of debt. I think they owe money from loan sharks too, and they've been hiding out in a steel house in the slums. He's really despicable; when we were getting divorced, he even threatened me and refused to sign the papers unless I gave him alimony."

"So, did you?" Lisa was a little worried.

"Of course not... I'm not that easy to bully, there was no way I was going to give him whatever he wanted. Our family provided the money for the condo, the car, and even the wedding reception. Why would I give him anything?"

"I can't believe how things ended up."

"Never mind, he brought everything onto himself... I don't plan to tell my daughter what kind of person her father is, we don't plan on going back to South Korea either."

Lisa felt bad upon hearing what Krystal said...

"A while back, Kai's parents came to see their granddaughter with a bunch of free-range eggs, but didn't know that you went abroad... His parents were forced to pay for Kai's sins, I feel really bad for them."

"This is all fate... They can't blame anyone for this... Anyways, my baby's crying, I'll call you another time."

"Okay."

After Lisa hung up the phone, she closed her eyes and sank deep into thought...

The truth was, she felt bad in the beginning because she always thought that if she hadn't broken up with Kai back then, maybe his life wouldn't be as miserable.

However, if she did marry him, he may still choose to go down the wrong path.

Maybe what happened to Krystal was what was supposed to happen to her.
