Chapter 61
5x10

One morning I was walking into the hospital. The second I walked through the door Melissa stopped me.

"Liam needs us. I got you out now come on." She grabbed my arm and we ran to her car. She then drove us to the animal clinic.

When we got there, I saw Hayden laying on the exam table. She looked so cold. So I grabbed her a blanket.

She was conscious and said. "Thank you."

"My pleasure." I went to the other side of the table. "You make him happy. I'll help to make sure he stays that way." I whispered in her ear looking at Liam.

She smiled and laughed. "No problem."

Then I went back to helping Melissa keep Hayden alive. I went to the back and got some supplies for Melissa.

When I got back to the room, Melissa was kicking everyone out. Even Liam. It was just, me, her, and Hayden. Hayden was barley there. She had passed out, which made me and Melissa's job somewhat easier.

I had been looking up and down at Melissa. I was strongly considering telling her that I'm pregnant. But I also wanted to wait until the perfect moment.

Melissa was like a mom to me in a way. She has definitely been there for me more in the past few years that I knew her, than Esther has been in the a thousand years of my life.

"Okay, what is it?" She asked sticking a needle in Hayden's arm.

"Huh?" I asked putting an IV bag on it's thing.

"You've been looking at me, like you want to tell me something." Melissa took out the needle. "So what is it?"

"Okay." I let a sigh. "I'm pregnant."

"Wow." She said falling back onto a chair.

"Are you okay?" I asked rushing to her side.

"Are you crazy." She hit me on the head with a pillow and got up. "You are on of the most promising residents I have seen in my entire career. And Stiles he's in high school. Do you have any idea how this kid will impact your life?" She looked back at me still where I was when she hit me with the pillow. "And how did it even happen? Aren't you a vampire, they can't procreate."

"Technically vampires can't. But I'm a Tribrid. And my twin brother has a kid too." I answered her second question. "And Melissa this kid has given my life purpose, after a thousand years. It's a miracle."

Melissa smiled. "Your life has had meaning forever. Because it had you, and you mean so much to everyone who knows you." I started smiling. "And second, kids are always miracles. You may regret who you had them with, but you never regret them."

We let Liam back in, Melissa noticed her treatment wasn't working. Hayden wanted her sister. So Scott went off to get her.

Melissa and Liam took Hayden to the hospital. They figured it would have more of the equipment she needed. I went to work and told Melissa to call me if she needed any help.

I was working in the ER when I got a concerning text from Scott.

SM
I need help at high school.

I thought about going for a second. But then I remembered, I couldn't. I don't just have to stay alive for me anymore. I had the baby to think about.

So, I texted Melissa. She would go and see what she could do to help. I also texted Mason, Liam's friend, and Malia for backup to help Melissa.

Melissa couldn't leave Hayden alone. But she also just wanted Hayden not be alone. Melissa knew she couldn't save her. She thought I would be a good person to keep her company in the last moments.

I found Melissa just standing next to a very pale and sweaty Hayden.

She walked over to me. "Just do whatever it takes to make her comfortable." She walked out.

I went to Hayden's bedside and looked down at her. I thought of a way to make her comfortable. I looked deep in her eyes and started to compel her. "Listen to my voice. Imagine hearing your sister's. Imagine I'm her. Listen to her and her telling you exactly what she would say in this situation."

She was quiet. Then spoke. "Val, I'm so tried." She was quiet again. "Thank you, Val." She shut her eyes and saw me again. "Thank you. Can you do that to her. I need her to be okay."

"I can compel her into thinking she saw you in your last moments. But I can't compel her not to grieve." I said.

"I know. Do that, she needs to know she said goodbye." Hayden begged.

"Okay." I nodded.

Hayden relaxed and groaned in pain.

I started compelling her again. "Hayden, let the pain you are feeling right now wash away." She relaxed in a comfortable way. "Close your eyes, and see your happy place. And in that happy place is all the people you want next to you."

I stepped away letting her see what she needed.

But when I turned back around I noticed she wasn't breathing, she wasn't moving. She was dead. I grabbed her hand and it was already cold.

My phone was on the table right next to where I was standing. So I decided to text Melissa. She couldn't have been at the School yet. And someone had to tell Liam. I texted her Hayden is at Peace now.

It was the best way I could think of to tell her Hayden died peacefully.

I found Liam a few minutes later holding onto the body.

"She's gone." He cried.

"I know." I sat next to him. "I know.

"Scott told me, about a guy. You dated him. You loved him. And he died." He said.

"Aiden." I closed my eyes and all I saw was his face.

"How'd you get over his death?" Liam asked.

"It was the hardest I ever did." I said honestly. "But once you get past that hurt and the felling that your heart is just gonna fall out of your chest, you realize that you need to get over it. And it will kill you, to even think that. But than you find someone else. Someone wonderful. And you feel stupid for ever thinking you would never get over that person. And you know, that the person you love would want you to move on. Keep that. Because otherwise you will lose yourself."

He dropped his head to his lap and kissed Hayden on the forehead. Then I got him off the floor and I brought him to get some coffee.
