When Jade emerged from the bathroom wearing a nightgown, she froze upon seeing Zeth standing in the middle of the room.

In this huge room full of gold, diamonds, jewels and even a small artificial river and waterfall, nothing shone as bright as him.

His back was facing her, but she could sense the tension in his body.

"Zeth?" she whispered, cautiously approaching him.

"It's not a wet dream. I'm really here," he said what was typical of him.

"Are you alright? You look tense."

"I am not fine," he said through gritted teeth, turning around to face her. "We need to talk."

"Did I do something wrong?" she asked, sitting down on his bed and looking up at him with worried eyes. "If I did, please don't be angry."

"I'm not going to force you into anything, but I think you should leave," Zeth clenched his fists, his sapphire eyes filled with worry. "I think you should forget about being our bodyguard and girlfriend, leave us behind, and move on with your life. You are in danger."

"You know I'm not going to do that, Zeth," she replied, and he nodded.

"As much as I want to protect you, Jade, I understand that it's not my decision to make. But it is my desire to keep you away," Zeth turned to look at her face. "I don't want to lose you."

"I'm not as vulnerable as before, Zeth," she said, running a hand through her wet hair. "I'm not Evie, but I can defend myself."

"And that's why I love you," he said, taking two steps toward her. She gasped. Did he just say that? “Because you're a warrior. You never give up. You never stay the same." But when he sat on the bed next to her, he refused to look at her face and got lost in thought. "Nothing ever stays the same. Everything has a beginning and an end."

"I suspect that this is not the only thing you want to tell me," she said, and he nodded, avoiding her gaze. "Talk. What is it?"

"I can't imagine my life without you, Jade," Zeth took her hands. His were so warm. "But I think the band, all of this, must end."

“What?”

“I'm worried about my friends, Jade. I worry about you because I love you, and Finn because I've fallen in love. You know something? I always fall for strong, determined, capable people, and you and Finn are that now, and I'm afraid of losing you."

"And you told Finn that, right?" Jade asked, and he shook his head slightly.

“Finn and I... He and I were at the restaurant, and we almost kissed. We got carried away."

“I am glad you and Finn are getting closer,” she leaned closer and kissed him on the cheek. "So go ahead and tell him how you feel.”

"Will you be busy?" he asked. "Do I interrupt something? Because I need to talk and get the pain out of my chest. I need you to tell me that I'm doing the right thing by ending Monster Mash."

“I will never tell you that. It was you who actually said that the band was important because a lot of people depend on you. You told me that a year ago.”

“Yes, yes I did,” Zeth seemed to be upset, but with himself more than anything. "I treated you badly back then, and look at us now."

"Why were you so rude to me when we first met?" Jade asked.

"Because Duke Kade Rahman of Zeleste Island supposedly had a prophetic nightmare in which a Zeldrich as large as a mountain emerged to threaten Evalon," said Zeth, and she couldn't understand what that had to do with the current situation, "More than two hundred years later, I fought that beast myself. That's when I understood that premonitory dreams are real, sent by the god of your preference, but destined to announce catastrophes."
