"shivangiii..."
Vinay called out standing out of her room and turned the knob gently before the clicking sound was heard... With utmost patience he pushed it open expecting her to be asleep but found the bed empty... Frowning to himself he walked ahead calling out her name...
"Sivu..." And when he was about to repeat her name he saw her shadowed figure by the corner of his eyes before tilting his head to her side... He found her sitting on the small couch, facing the open window as the night sky twinkled outside...
"Innum thoongala-" his words were cut off when he saw her fast asleep on the couch, hugging her legs close to her chest... Her eyes were closed and the messy bun was about to untie, with her chest heaving in an even motion he could say she was having a good sleep after a tiring day, preparing herself for another tiring day...
Unknowingly a smile bloomed across his face and he moved to her bed silently to take a blanket for her and came back to her... Spreading the blanket wide he folded that into two before laying it gently over her... When he was tucking the edges to her neck, she jerked awake and almost screamed seeing him close...
"Deiii... Loosu..." She shouted jerking him off and she huffed a breath in relief only to glare at him later, "ippudi thaan bayamuruthuviya nee... Loosu..." She said rubbing her chest and that's when she noticed the blanket over her...
Momentarily her eyes softened as he kept silent and she tilted her head up to face him, "Yenna da.. pudhusa porvailaam pothi vudra... Yennaach..." Pulling the blanket close to her she sat straight and patted the seat next to her for him to take it...
"Okaaru vaa..." With a yawn she patted the seat beside her and vinay shook his head negatively, before pulling himself down to the floor beside her legs... "Deiii Yenna da... Endhuku keela laam okaarura, mela vaa..." She insisted, patting the space beside her but he shook his head in denial, "illa, paravla..."
After that he didn't utter anything and shivangi too didn't force him to speak... She just kept silent as he and a few minutes passed in utter silence... For a while he didn't speak or move but then he gently moved himself closer to her legs...
Before she realised anything she could feel the back of his head on her thighs and the air in her chest got stuck... It's not something that her brother would do, the vinay she knows would never lay on her lap like he used to do when they were kids...
Once in a blue moon they would share some emotional moments but that never included him laying on her lap... It's not like she doesn't like it, but it felt strange and at that moment, staying as rigid as possible had become her life purpose...
She could feel him turning his head on her lap and now she felt his cheeks against her thighs... Slowly and cautiously she moved her hand to his head and softly touched his hair ...
To her surprise neither did he flinch nor he moved away, he just stayed put leaning more towards her and she ran her hands through his hair as softly as she could... Her mind rewind the moments when she used to do the same for Ashwin...
But never once did she feel awkward with Ashwin, and that's when she realised, how distant she is with her own brother... It made her chest ache in regret... They had spent years together and not even once either of them had tried to know what they thought of each other...
She knows that he loves her, and she too loves him a lot but it has always been hidden or unaware of the other one... He is her own brother, her blood, they had grown together and still what's so odd about him laying on her lap...
She felt bad for feeling awkward with her own brother and it made her realise that all these years together they had never once truly confessed to each other how much they meant to the other...
