It's Been Too Long

Pacifica couldn't wait to get to Reverse Falls. She had been away for far too long in which she was away in France studying abroad. It had been a lovely five years there, but she had missed the old town far too much.

Or just one person.

Pacifica had tried her best not to think about the magician who'd captured her heart the first summer she had spent in Reverse Falls, it would have been far too painful to even remember his name.

Unfortunately, she had.

"Keep it together, Pacifica." She hissed at herself. "He probably had forgotten about you anyways." The girl walked the streets of her childhood town, which hadn't changed at all.

"Forgotten about you? My my, you must be delusional." A familiar chuckle sounded from behind her.

Pacifica whipped around just in time to see Dipper Gleeful there, smirk and all. He was taller now, taller than he was five years ago, but he definitely looked the same.

He extended a hand which Pacifica took and shook. Although she wondering why they weren't picking up where they had left off years ago.

"I'll miss you, promise me you'll write every second of every day." Dipper threatened in a teasing manner.

"I'm not sure I can promise that, Dipper." Pacifica admitted. "We'll be in totally different time zones, and I doubt I'll be able to write letters. . .texting or email work for you?"

"Just as long as we can stay in contact." He agreed. "Please, don't meet some French boy,"

"Please don't meet some American girl." Pacifica replied. "Seriously."

"I'm not sure I'll be able to keep you out of my head." Dipper said, crushing the tiny blonde in a hug, "you have a habit of breaking down the walls that I so cautiously built."

"Good thing or bad thing?" She asked.

"Definitely a good thing." He chuckled. "Please don't forget me. . . ."

"How have you been?" He asked.

Formalities again.

"I've been good." She replied quietly.

"France better than America?"

Stupid small-talk.

"Depends."

"You have a good time?"

The small-talk. . .something's up. Is it a dream?

"It was a fine trip." Pacifica choked back her true emotions. She couldn't understand why he was being so formal around her instead of being the same way he was years ago.

"You look like you enjoyed it." He said.

No emotion in his voice. . .did he even miss me?

"I did, but I certainly missed the magic of Reverse Falls." She chuckled.

He went silent.

Is he reading my thoughts, does he know what I'm thinking? Wait. . .where's his amulet?

"Dipper. . . ?" She asked. "Where's your amulet?"

Dipper almost looked like he had left his body, but he still remained. "My amulet. . ." he whispered.

"Yes, what happened to it?" Pacifica prodded.

"I. . .I cannot remember. . ." He sounded as if he were just remembering what he was doing there. "I'm not sure I understand."

"Dipper, are you okay?" Pacifica looked him directly in the eye. "You don't seem very. . .coordinated."

"What's going on?" He asked, looking around.

What is going on?! Pacifica thought. As soon as I said 'amulet' he's nearly forgotten everything! Is it some sort of trigger word?

"Dipper, calm down." She steadied the magician and stared at his eyes, "Dipper, tell me everything. What happened during the years I was gone?"
