jackson as boyfriend

................................................................................................................................................................

Cold, wet raindrops, dripped onto your shoulder and you shivered despite the thick sweater you had on. Chilly mist sprayed your face as you stepped into the café, shaking off the droplets from your umbrella, relishing in the warmth that was much more welcome than the downpour outside. Taking your usual seat by the window, you ordered your usual, a hot Americano. Glancing outside the window, which was spattered with rain, that looked like quicksilver as it rolled down, your mind flashed back, as it always did, to the last time you had sat down in this same exact spot.

Flashback

You found yourself unable to pull away from the magnetic quality of Jackson's eyes and smile as he rattled on and on about work. He was your boyfriend of 2 years but you still trying to wrap your brain around how you managed to get so lucky. You loved, loved watching him talk. He was always so enthusiastic and more often than not his face would scrunch up adorably, crinkly laugh lines appearing at the corner of his eyes.

'Earth to (Y/N),' a rough, amused voice brought you back to Earth as Jackson waved a hand in front of you, clearly trying to get you to pay attention.

'Did you listen to a word I said?' he asked, amusement tinging his voice as you blushed furiously, having been caught staring.

'Yeah,' you replied defensively, but grinned guiltily under his knowing look. 'Okay maybe I just drifted a little,' you admitted. 'Or a lot,'

'I'm sorry if I'm boring you,' Jackson chuckled, taking your hand in his, intertwining your fingers together, the promise ring he had gotten for you for your 2-year anniversary, glinting under the soft yellow light. 'What were you thinking about?"

'Well, if you must know, I was thinking about how cute you looked while you were talking,'

Smiling that special, puppy smile, he kissed your hand gently, sighing. 'I sometimes wonder what I did to deserve you,' he thought aloud, to your surprise.

'Don't say that,' you whacked him gently on the shoulder.

'Why not?"

'Because boyfriends only say that if they're about to break up with their girlfriends and if you are breaking up with me so God help me Jackson-,'

Cutting you off with a quick peck on the cheek, he smiled at your rambling. 'No, I'm not breaking up with you, I wouldn't want Jinyoung to kick me out of the dorm,' he said in jest but his tone soon turned thoughtful again.

'What's bothering you?' you probed, wondering what had happened to put Jackson in such a despondent spirit.

'Nothing,' he smiled, pressing a soft kiss against your hand. 'I just.... Love you,' he sighed, looking out at the howling wind and the rain which lashed against the window.

'I love you too,' you smiled at him, and the morose cloud over his head seemed to disperse, returning him to his usual sunny disposition.

Back To The Present

Thinking back on it, those were the best last words you could have said to him.

That was the last golden moment you had with Jackson, one that you would remember forever. You remembered the way he smiled at you, as if you were the most important thing in his universe, the way he held you to prevent you from catching a cold from the rain, the warmth and smell of his jacket that he had lent to you as he escorted you into the car.

Unfortunately, other memories plunged you into the nightmarish turn of events. You had seen the lights and was about to open your mouth to scream but it was too late as a truck barrelled right into the car, Jackson swerving madly to avoid the oncoming vehicle, but it was too late. You heard glass shattering into a million pieces, your screams mingled into the screech of metal against metal, the burst of warmth from your skull, as a glass shard ripped it open, warm blood flowing from the top of your head. The last thing you felt before falling, was the squeeze of Jackson's hand as he tried to protect you from the worst of the crash.

He didn't make it. The doctors tried their best but his ribs had been crushed on impact and he had was struggling to breathe even on the ventilator. Hours after the accident, he slipped into a coma and after a week of no response, the doctors after having consulted his parents, decided to pull the plug. It had been the hardest day of your life, as you saw the line on the heart monitor plateau the sound of constant steady beating of his heart reduced to a dull beeping that seemed to envelop the whole room.

Gentle tears slipped from your closed eyelids, trailing your cheeks, as you leaned your forehead against the cold window.

'I miss you,' you whispered brokenly to the glass, knowing that no one could hear, watching as your breath fogged up the glass.

A song trickled from the speakers overhead, gentle and soothing.

How apt  you thought as you heard snippets of the lyrics.

Do you remember?

The stories we shared all night

Rain is falling, again today

A painful rain

Like the day I let you go

Rain is falling, yet again

Preventing me from sleeping

I think I still

I'm still waiting for you

On that rainy night

We were in love

Even until the end

You worried about me

You held me.
