Chapter 47

I thought I'm gonna shoulder Laureen's job the next day but to my surprise we are all called for an emergency meeting. Tuloy ay parang mga zombie sila na pumasok sa Hospital. I bought them coffee para kahit papaano ay mahimasmasan sila. They slept on my condo dahil parehas silang lasing, nahirapan pa akong ipasok sila dahil sobrang likot. Maaga kaming nakatanggap ng message mula sa Director so we have to hurry and prepare ourselves. Mukhang may importante kaming pag uusapan.

"First, I would like to congratulate Dr. Londres and her team for a job well done again. You never failed the hospital." We received applause from other doctors, and then finally continued to the main agenda.

"You are all aware that we have partnerships from other countries and that includes Philippines." he then fixed his gazed on me. "It has come to my knowledge that they need a head Doctors and Professors for some departments. And so I have come up with a decision."

Para akong kinabahan ng hindi natanggal ang tingin niya sa akin. Don't tell me.

"Ms. Londres will be assigned in the Philippines for the meantime. You will choose a team and you'll be a team leader"

Halos malaglag ako sa kinauupuan ko dahil sa sinabi niya. Ako? Sa Pilipinas? There's no way I would do that.

Pero syempre sino ba naman ako para tumanggi. Maaaring isa ako sa paboritong Doctor dito pero hindi ako ang may ari.

I made my way to Directors office to talk to him.

"I'm sorry about this sudden decision Dr. Londres, I hope you understand. You're one of our outstanding Doctor here so I think it will be a good idea to sent them the best ones."

Hindi ako sumagot sa kaniya pero tumango lamang ako. Hindi ko Kasi alam ang sasabihin ko.

"Aside from that I have a special request for you. My friend is currently brain dead after he undergone surgery. I hope you'll have time to check on him"

He gave me the profile and records of the patient. My eyes widened when I remember this man. He and his wife were the ones who helped me that painful night. Malaki ang utang na loob ko sa kanila.

"I will go" I honestly had something on me that stops me from coming home but, when I saw him. I made up my mind. Malaki ang utang na loob ko sa kanila at kung para sa iba maliit na bagay lamang iyon para sa akin, sobra na iyon. Hindi ko naman sila kaano ano at ni hindi manlang nila ako kilala pero tinulungan nila ako. Maybe it's God timing for me to repay them.

Napahilot ako sa sentido nang makabalik sa office ko. Hindi ako mapakali at parang binabalisawsaw.

"Ano ba yan Mei. Nakapag decide ka na ok? What's stopping you? It's not that magkikita ulit kayo. Come on! Ang lawak ng Pilipinas" I console myself para mapanindigan ko ang desisyon kong umuwi. I sighed. Maybe I should visit my siblings

After a week of processing our paper of transfer, we are now headed to the airport.

"I'm so excited! Thanks for choosing me" Alesha hugged me while thanking me.

Bilang ako ang team leader ay ako ang namili ng team ko. Of course that includes Laureen and Alesha, kasama rin ang ibang Doctors and nurses na kasundo ko.

"Of course-" naputol ang sasabihin ko ng may makitang pamilyar na pigura ng babae at lalake. Itinago ko ang mukha ko gamit ang aking cap. It was Avril and Josh. So they both work here huh.

When our flight was called, we prepared everything to leave. Habang nasa seats ay hindi ako mapakali dahil alam kong nandito si Avril sa flight na ito. Alam kong alam niya ang nangyaring paghihiwalay namin ni Uno, pero hindi pa ako handang magpaliwanag.

Mabuti na lamang at ordinary class siya naka assign habang kami ay nasa business class kaya hindi kami nagtagpo.

"You okay? You seemed anxious. What's the matter?" tanong ni Laureen ng mapansing palinga linga ako.

"Nothing. I just have to pee" umalis ako sa upuan ko at pumunta sa cr.

"Relax Meisha! It's ok" naghilamos ako at naghugas ng kamay bago lumabas.

Halos atakihin ako sa puso ng makita si Avril na nasa labas.

"Long time no see Doktora" hindi iyon sarkastiko o malamig, natural na paraan kung paano siya magsalita.

Grabe! Tumatanda na kami pero mas lalo siyang gumaganda. Umiedad na siya pero sobrang flawless pa rin. May asawa na kaya siya? Siguro naman sa ganda at bait niya ay meron na.

"L-long time no see Avril. Kumusta?" I tried to be casual to her kahit na sa loob loob ko ay nahihiya ako sa kaniya.

"I'm fine. You?" tumaas pa ang kanang kilay niya. I wonder how she handled those rude passengers, sinasabunutan o sinasapak niya kaya? Pero hindi pupwede iyon.

"Ayos lang din ako. Masaya akong nakita ka." nakatitig lang siya sa akin kaya nagpasya akong magpaalam na "I'll go ahead"

"Wait" pinigilan niya ako at hinawakan ang kamay ko. May papel siyang iniabot sa akin. "That's my calling card maybe we can catch up soon. You should be grateful there are lots of guys who asked for it, but I gave it to you willingly."

Grabe! Hindi pa rin siya nagbabago, hanggang ngayon confident pa rin siya. Well, she must be, she's really an epitome of beauty and confidence.

"Sure." nag iisat dalawa ako kung sasabihin ko bang huwag munang banggitin kay Uno. Hindi ko alam kung nagkikita pa sila hanggang ngayon pero. "Can you please not tell Uno about this?"

"Nah. I don't have plans" she turned her back on me and wave her hands, before glancing me again. "By the way, you look prettier" she then walked her way out gracefully.

Nakahinga naman ako ng maluwag, dahil sa sinabi niyang wala siyang balak magsabi kay Uno.

Tinitigan ko ang calling card niya, there's nothing wrong with catching up with her. She was there too before, she helped me, she befriend me. And I'm thankful to her.

Avril may have the hard and bitchy feature but she owned one of the kindest heart. Kung naging lalake siguro ako ay siya ang crush ko. Nakakatibo ang ganda niya.

Hindi ko namalayang nakatulog na pala ako, nagising lang ako ng mag lalanding na ang eroplano.

It took us minutes bago makuha ang mga bagahe namin. Sa airport pa lang ay excited na ang mga kasama ko. They took pictures so they can post it on their social media accounts. Wala pa rin naman kasi iyong service namin.

Habang nagpipicture sila ay napadaan sa harapan ko sina Avril at Josh. Avril was clinging her arms to Josh's. Are they together? Bahagya silang huminto sa harapan ko para batiin ako.

"Mga kasama mo?" tumango ako nang inguso ni Avril ang mga kasama ko.

"Hey! It's good to see you again" bati sa akin ni Josh.

"Nice to see you again" hindi matanggal ang titig ko sa braso nila. Mukhang napansin naman nila iyon kaya napahalakhak si Avril.

"Hey! Hey! We're not together for Pete's sake" agad na tanggi ni Josh at pilit inalis ang kamay ni Avril. "Oh come on! Ayaw kong makulong"

Umalis na rin sila ng tawagin ng mga kasama, kaya bumaling ako sa mga kasama ko.

"You know them?"

"Yes. An old friends"

"We've been spotting that girl during the flight. I wonder if she's a pure Filipina because damn! She's just so beautiful. Right?" Laureen ask for Alesha's approval but the latter shook her head.

"Nah! I'm spotting the pilot" she giggled that made me cringed.

Dumating ang sundo namin kaya lumabas na kami ng airport.

Ang familiar na amoy at atmosphere ng Pilipinas ang sumalubong sa akin. Malayang nadadala ng hangin ang buhok ko kasabay ng pagtama nito sa akin. I'm back.
