𝐓𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐖𝐨𝐥𝐟 - 𝐒𝟐 𝐄𝟏

It was morning when Skylar had woken, with no recollection of how nor when exactly she had fallen asleep. In the seconds of grogginess that consumed the young creature, her hearing was flooded with new sounds, a constant tone of a beep - no doubt coming from a pager. The faint raised voices from people in the room next door, and the torturous sound of gurneys being pushed to and fro. From the back of Skylar's throat, she released a long winded groan. One thing she'll never get used to, hospitals. Something about them settled an uneasy feeling in the pit of her stomach.

Filtered air filled her senses, the usual scent of antiseptic being the only thing she could smell for miles. It even overpowered Lydia's shampoo, the dreamy smell no doubt stripped from the girl after being holed up in the hospital room for so long. It wasn't clear what time it was, nor how long she'd been perched on the chair just contacting Lydia's bed. But the aching sensation pouring itself throughout Skylar's arm towards her hand, told her it was long enough. It was rare she got pins and needles, considering she was a werewolf now. But as she gently tore her hand from Lydia's, it flooded with the strange feeling of numbness.

The chair she was seated on, earned her no comfort and how she managed to sleep through the night, she would never know. It was only the slightly high pitched screech of the door that Skylar's head was turned from the girl who held her heart. It thumped rapidly within her chest at the sight of Melissa before her, the door slightly ajar and Scott's mom stood with her brown eyes wide. She hadn't expected anyone to be in the room, let alone Skylar. Despair roamed the room when she saw the nurse, it only meant it was time to leave. God forbid Lydia's mother found her here.

"Skylar... you can't be here." Melissa spoke after what felt like a long minute of silence, she closed the door quickly as her eyes peered out of the window hoping that no other nurse would pass by.

"I know." The brunette nodded, she already knew and acknowledged the fact that she wasn't supposed to be in the hospital room, it was strictly for family only. "I just didn't have the heart to leave her in this cold room alone. To wake up to no one. She doesn't deserve that."

Melissa couldn't help but smile at the young woman's words, a sense of pride washed over her, it felt nice to know at least one of the millennials these days had compassion. It was hard picturing the girl before her as the woman she'd become today, it was almost like yesterday that she came across the young brunette toddling the halls with a stuffed animal in hand. A shy look across her face as Melissa generously handed her a lolly from the jar. It was strange to think that just a couple years later, her son introduced the girl as his best friend.

Since that moment, and every visit spent in the hospital during her mothers stay, it had become Melissa's mission to treat the child as her own. Just like Scott - she'd cradled the brunette in her arms as she sat at her mothers bedside, the woman too sedated to be able to console her toddler. It built the foundation of a beautiful relationship; one Melissa cherished just as she did with her son. With nervous glances, Melissa reached out for the teenager, placing a caring hand on her shoulder as she had many times before.
