Comfortability levels. Tessa never really got comfortable with anyone nor let a lot of people into her life.
Tessa had sat on Miguel Diaz's bed as she watched him punch the air, the boy saying he was doing 'Karate training'. Miguels grandmother was cooking dinner while they waited for Carmen to get home from work. Tessa had arrived earlier at the Diaz home, intending to hang out with the son, only to end up sitting in silence, neither talking so Miguel could stay concentrated.
There was a slight knock on the door, only being heard slightly over the rock music being played. "MIGUEL!" Rosa yelled through the door.
"We'll be right there. Almost finished." Miguel responded, barely listening to anything his grandmother had to say.
"This is like, really uncomfortable for me." Tessa spoke, not understanding the reason why he needed to do this while she was over. She just watched him, awkwardly sitting in the corner of his room on his bed while she read a magazine. She heard Rosa mutter something under her breath, but couldn't tell what she had said, the music being too loud.
Miguel, Tessa, and Rosa all sat around the kitchen table, eating the dinner Rosa prepared for them. There was a weird and almost uncomfortable silence as they ate the food as Rosa would give the pair knowing glances multiple times.
"Gracias por la comida. Es realmente bueno." [Thank you for the food. It's really good]. Tessa spoke, smiling up at Rosa, finally someone had broken the weird silence.
"Mira quién está aquí." [Look who's here]. Tessa lifted her head up as she heard the door open and close while Rosa spoke.
"Hey guys. Mm, it smells good in here." Carmen sat her purse down as she spoke, making her way towards the dinner table.
"Hice pollo y salsa de chile." [I made chicken and chili sauce] Rosa spoke as she pointed down to the food.
"Gracias mamá. Sorry I'm late again." Carmen walked around the table, kissing Miguel on the side of his face then going to Tessa to put a hand on her shoulder. "Things are crazy at the hospital."
"It's okay. Your short-staffed." Miguel shrugged her words off. "But we saved you some food." He smiled up at the women.
"It's good to see you again Tessa. Miguel always talks about you. How are you doing?" Carmen spoke towards the LaRusso girl.
"Mamá." Miguel whispered, not making eye-contact with anyone at the table.
"I'm doing good. I'm excited for Halloween, it's my favorite holiday." Tessa smiled up at Carmen, watching as she sat down at the table and started to put food on her plate.
