The jury came and we all began to stand
"The court will now begin. On 4th of year XXXX, her highness, Princess Shae Leonitus-Ophelia's lady in waiting, Olivia Aiden from the House of Aiden was murdered inside the imperial palace. At that time, a grand event was held in the imperial palace to celebrate independence day with everyone in the Empire. Our primary suspect, lady Eloise Ophelia from the ducal's state, who claimed not guilty, is here in this court. Lady Eloise, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law." He said
"Yes, your honor," I said
We all sat down, I can feel all the eyes are on me
deja vu, huh?
Well, this is my role, the villain, no matter how much I tried to be nice and get along with everyone, no matter how I fight for the sake of the empire, during my life and death situation, no one will acknowledge my efforts and deeds I did for them and they'll never notice everything I worked hard for because I am the bad guy in everyone's eyes
The proclaimed witness stands in front
"I'm a maid from the imperial palace," the witness said
"I saw lady Eloise drinking wine at that time, she went to the kitchen and poured something into the drink, it must be the poison she used." She added
"Objection, your honor!" Princess Shae's voice was caught everyone's attention
"Your highness, I'm afraid that---"
"Can I speak for a second, your honor?" She said
The jury sighed and nodded
"That witness said wasn't true at all, at that time I was with lady Eloise the whole night, and nobles aren't allowed in the kitchen, the servants are the only ones that are allowed inside." Princess Shae said
The witness began sweating, "I-I only did say what I saw, y-your highness. You said you were with her the whole night, and I saw her putting something on the drinks before the event started, which is in the afternoon."
I raised my hands, I can feel all the attention are on me again
"Your honor, may I have the permission to speak?" I asked
"Yes, you may, lady Eloise."
I stood up and looked at the self-proclaimed witness.
"First of all, I'm inside the ducal's state from morning to afternoon reading and minding my own business. Second, princess Shae and I are in the garden the whole night, it's peaceful to start a conversation there and it was an relaxing ambience, of course. Third, I don't have any grudge or hatred against the certain deceased person because honestly, I don't even know her. Lastly, something's off here, you claimed you saw me in the kitchen that afternoon, what color of the dress did I wear that day?"
She was struggling to look me in the eye
"I-It was... red," she said
"Wrong," I replied
The whole noble inside the courtroom started to murmur
"Silence!" The jury said with authority in his voice
"I guess this witness is lying in front of you, your honor. Maybe she was paid to speak in this trial as a witness or unless she really saw someone dressed up like me in a red dress in the kitchen to frame me up."
"I did see you, my lady, you were there in the kitchen that afternoon!" She said in tears
"No one paid you to do this?" I asked
"No one!"
"Your honor, this witness showed no other evidence against me, this trial is pointless if you jumped to a conclusion quickly."
The judge thought for a seconds
"No evidence leads to no justice for lady Olivia Aiden's case, the trial shall end for today," the judge said, pounding his gavel
I took a deep breath, it's not the end, I still have to prepare myself
I am pretty sure someone set me up, if they show fake evidence against me, I have to do everything to avoid my goddamn doomed
