A Love That Left Me Wounded

Never become a bandage to someone's wound
These words rang in my head like a gloomy tune
As I sat in the corner of my lonely room
With teardrops falling as my heart consumed

How I wish those words had reached me sooner
Before love left me bruised with wounds so deep
I gave my all and my heart to a user
Who played my emotions like a broken symphony

I thought my love would heal his broken soul
But little did I know that he was just a hole
A void that could never be filled with emotions whole
And my love was just a bandage to cover the toll

Now I sit here nursing my broken heart
Wondering where did it all fall apart
Was it my fault, or was I played from the start?
As I try to piece my life back from the rampart

Love is a battlefield, a war that we all face
Some emerge victors, others a lesser pace
For me, love left me wounded with no space
To heal my heart as I try to find my place

I thought I could be his savior, his healer
A love that would chase away the darkness he felt so dear
But his heart was broken, and his soul forever in fear
Of love that would leave him again, shedding another tear

So I became his bandage, his temporary fix
A salve to cover his wounds, a love that just sticks
To the surface without ever penetrating deep
A love that left me wounded, with a heart that couldn't keep

I gave my all to love that just took
Until I was drained, my heart just a hook
To be used for another, as he moved on like a rook
A love that was nothing but lies from a crook

Never become a bandage to someone's wound
For love is not a game, not a passing sound
It's a deep connection, a bond that's profound
And if it's not mutual, it'll leave you feeling drowned

So, I turned to myself, a soul that needed mending
A heart that needed healing, a love that needed tending
I learned to love myself, to find my own happy ending
And in the process, I found a love that was transcending

A love that was not a bandage, but a balm to my soul
A love that nurtured and made me whole
A love that healed my wounds, and made me feel whole
A love that was worth much more than any gold.
