Complex Intensity of Love

I wonder what feels more intense,
Falling in love or falling out of love?
Is it the quickening pulse of desire,
Or the wrenching pain of a heart on fire?

In either case, the heart is full and alive,
Pulsing with the rush of raw emotion,
Whether soaring high, or sinking low,
It's impossible to resist the urge to know.

The dizzying rush of falling in love,
Feels like the thrill of a wild ride,
As you explore the depths of another,
And brace yourself for a heartwarming thunder.

You're drunk on the ecstasy of new love,
And every thought is consumed by your lover,
As you breathe in their scent, listen to their voice,
The sensation of completeness makes your heart rejoice.

You're consumed by passion, swept away in desire,
Until you can't remember what life was like prior,
And every moment is filled with rapture and joy,
As you revel in the excitement of love's new toy.

But what of falling out of love, I wonder,
Is there a more piercing pain than leaving it under?
The heartache, the despair, the sadness it brings,
Is it more profound and intense than the joy love sings?

When love fades away, it's a cruel and bitter pill,
It stings like a thousand needles, aches like day-long ill,
Every memory is filled with regret, every moment with pain,
The sheer emptiness leaves you feeling alone and insane.

The longing for what once was consumes your mind,
As you recall every detail, every word, every bind,
The sheer intensity of the sadness that you feel,
Makes it hard to believe that it was ever real.

But despite the pain, the heartache, the despair,
The intensity of falling in love and out of love, both so rare,
Both offer a glimpse into the human soul,
The capacity for love and the strength to let it go.

Perhaps the journey of love is meant to be complex,
Full of highs and lows, twists and turns, a perplexed vortex,
But ultimately, it's the intensity that keeps us alive,
As we navigate the rough waters and learn to survive.

So I wonder, which feels more intense,
Falling in love or falling out of love?
But in the end, it's not a question I can answer with ease,
For in the complexity of love, both offer a chance to release.
