Beginning of Us

I want to go back to the time when you first told me your name,

To relive that moment, that first glimpse of all we became,

To feel once more the rush of blood to face as my heart raced,

And remember the beauty of the words that your lips graced.

It wasn't love at first sight, but it was something close,

A lightning bolt of connection, a feeling so engrossed,

I felt a spark, a fire that could ignite the most frigid heart,

I knew then that you were different, set apart from the start.

Your smile was infectious, your laughter pure joy,

Your eyes, bright and shining, made me feel like a small boy,

But it wasn't just your looks, there was something else inside,

A kindness, a warmth, a spirit I wanted to confide.

We talked for hours, about everything and nothing at all,

And I knew then that this encounter was something special, no mere fall,

That this could be the beginning of something that could last,

That this friendship could bloom into something far beyond our past.

As time went on, we grew closer, our bond solid like stone,

We shared our fears and our dreams, all that we'd ever known,

We laughed until we cried, sharing secrets we'd never shared,

And all the while a love that couldn't be contained flared.

We danced around the issue, too scared to take that leap,

But the tension between us was too much to keep,

So we went on our first date, and it was magic, pure magic,

It was like the world was ours, nothing could make us tragic.

As we explored the city, I couldn't believe that you were mine,

I had never met someone so perfect, so fine,

And as we walked together, holding hands, smiles on our faces,

I knew that it was you, I wanted in all my tight places.

Our relationship blossomed, into something bright and true,

And I found myself falling in love, totally, completely, with you,

Every moment we spent together was a special kind of magic,

As we traveled, explored, and indulged in endless romantic antics.

Years passed by, and our love only grew stronger,

We built a life together, one that lasted longer and longer,

We shared so many amazing moments, and also weathered dark days,

But through it all, we held together, through the good times and bad ways.

Now we're far beyond just the beginning, our love mature and secure,

But every now and then I think back to that moment, so pure,

When I heard you speak your name, and I knew that I'd never be the same,

And I smile, thankful for you, thankful for this love we claim.

It's hard to believe sometimes that so much time has gone by,

That we're no longer the young couple who once would do nothing but sigh,

But whenever I look into your eyes, see the love that still shines bright,

I'm reminded that even though time goes by, love like ours remains the light.

Here's to the beginning, that fateful moment in time,

When we started on our journey, not knowing what we'd find,
