[VOL 9] Tension

(In Genius's base)

The screens turn off. Genius gets up from his chair.
Genius: Expected.
Jess: What do you mean?
Genius: See, your team doesn't have their leader. They're stuck.
Jess: They have Mike.
Genius: But not everyone trusts him. And it may lead to a split in the team.
Jess: What do you want?!
Genius: To win this game. To beat you.
Genius snaps his fingers and Jess's chair begins to move to a room. The chair throws Jess off it and leaves the room. Bars appear from the doorway.
Genius: If you look to your left, you will see a bottle of water. In the morning you'll find a tray of food and no, I have not poisoned either the water or food. Goodnight Jessica.
Jess: Fuck you.
Genius leaves and Jess sits against the wall. She goes into her pocket and pulls out a picture of her and Jayden holding Casey. Jess smiles and looks at her ring. She touches and then lies on the floor and falls to sleep.

(At the Rejects base)

Mike: Has anyone seen Crystal?
Darian: She went into the training room, said she wanted to be left alone.
Mike: Fuck.
Taylor: Everything alright?
Mike: I made Crystal more mad at me.
Taylor: So that's why she set you as the main combatant.
Mike: I should apologize. *yawns* In the morning.
Mike heads up the stairs.
Taylor: Tell Elizza she can head home now.
Mike: Will do.
Darian: You think everything's alright with everyone?
Taylor: I mean our leader is missing and an evil mad man has been forced our friends to fight some robots who are similar in every way to our friends. I don't think they're alright.

(Back in the medbay)

Herc: Does anyone actually think Mike is in his right state of mind?
Jayden: Are you actually questioning the guy who brought you on this team?
Isaiah: He's been acting a bit out of character.
Tobias: He's been going through some problems like everyone else here.
Herc: You're blinded by your friendship with him.
Jayden: How about you remember who even made you a hero and a member of this team.
Isaiah: Maybe we should all calm down.
Jayden turns to his side and blocks his view of Herc.
Tobias: Jesus Christ, everyone should stop fighting. We need to focus on finding Jess.
Herc: We'll figure it out in the morning.
Herc falls onto the bed and goes to sleep. Everyone soon follows.

(Upstairs)

Mike opens the door to Jess and Jayden's room and sees Elizza and Casey asleep on the bed. Mike walks into the room and grabs Casey and puts him into his bed. Casey opens his eyes and sees Mike.
Casey: Uncle Mike?
Mike: Hey little buddy, no need to worry, just gonna get Aunty Elizza home, ok?
Casey: Ok. Goodnight Uncle Mike.
Mike: Goodnight little buddy.
Mike pulls over the blanket and pats his head. Mike then goes over to Elizza and shakes her. She stirs a little but doesn't get up.
Mike: Elizza, get up.
Elizza: Mmmmmm Five more minutes.
Mike picks up Elizza and she starts waking up.
Elizza: What the hell are you doing?
Mike: Getting you up.
Elizza: Can you please put me down. This is adorable but kinda creepy.
Mike sets Elizza on the bed. Elizza then gets up.
Mike: Want me to take you home?
Elizza: Nah, you need to sleep and get ready for tomorrow.
Mike: Yeah. I guess I do.
Elizza: Do you want to spend some time with me?
Mike: Nooooooo. What?! Pfffft, what gives you that idea?
Elizza kisses Mike on the cheek and leaves the room.
Elizza: Maybe next time hero.
Elizza exits the room and Mike smiles like an idiot.
